Gas station tanks always have a bit of water in them, usually it's not an issue because the water separates and floats at the top while the gas is pumped from the bottom

Isn’t gas lighter than water? That’s why crude and distillates float causing ‘sheens?’ That’s why there are at least 2 fuel water separators in addition to filters on most diesel powered systems. Likely algae buildup from humidity / moisture.

Naming the station, or at least an intersection, might have helped someone else not frick up their car.

This happened saturday and the station already took the blame. I'm more than sure it's resolved by now.

They had the wrong filters installed. Ethanol requires a filter that stops the flow if water is present. There are non ethanol filters that will let water through. Whoever changes their filters screwed up.

This is more than likely the answer.

This is a legit "Thanks Obama.gif" situation.

You are right, that's my bad. I got it backwards, hadn't had my coffee yet this morning. Either way it's only really an issue if the tanker is pumping into tank or fuel is extremely low.

Found the guy who has never taken a fuel sample. I bet you give bogus info to people on a daily basis.

So how does a tanker truck deliver a load of "gas" that's 90% water?

Is this something common that people do? I would guess most people haven’t taken a fuel sample.

Actually, this is one of the few times I advocate calling in the Feds.

He actually needs to call LDEQ. They regulate underground storage tanks and the EPA is just going to refer him to LDEQ anyway.

Good for them taking responsibility, I am sorry this happened to you.

Pretty much this.

There is one specific station in my area that I NEVER use because there are a ton of complains every time it rains that people got a gas tank full of water.

If you put any water in gasoline with ethanol and let it sit, the whole damn thing separates into individual components. Which means that pulling from the top of the station tanks likely gets you filthy water instead of gas.

There's no risk to you, it's pretty easy to prove if they get pissy. Just go fill up a can from the same pump/grade your wife used then have it tested.

Otherwise you're allowing everyone else in the area to face possibly going through the same thing.

People that do walk around preflight inspections on aircraft know this in an incorrect statement.
