Good luck.
Stay around to raise him, for his sake, your sake, his mom's sake, and society's sake.

Real advice?
I posted on it about 6 years ago when my son was little. Don't beat yourself up when you aren't hit with tons of emotion. All the storybook speeches "my life changed forever the instant I held him". Honestly, I was terrified and my head was swimming. My wife was being sewn up post c-section and scared and crying. Both her and the nurse had to remind me to go check on the baby. Lol
Don't get me wrong. I was happy. But the whole thing is a blur of fear, joy, and sentiment. All rolled into one. Impossible to really process. I don't think the feeling of swimming ended until I came home from work after my first shift back after he was born. Immediately took him out of his rocker/swing. That was a moment that it clicked into focus. We are talking 2-3 weeks after he was born though.

Let's hear your best advice on how to raise a young man in this day and age.
1. Don't let the wife make all the decisions raising the kid, it doesn't matter if it's a boy or girl. Be active in raising and teaching them.
2. If your wife says, "Well my mom says......" run away. She either puts you before all others or she doesn't. It's a deal breaker.

Cover the penis with the diaper while changing diapers. I've never been peed on with my girl. Changing my boys diaper is like playing craps...you will get peed on.

1. Free Range. Let him roam. Pretend it is 1975.
2. No video games other than something for road trips.
3. Spoil him with respect. Respect the little dude.
4. Make sure music / books are present in the home at as much as possible,
5. Don't be a low IQ Authoritarian parent. Explain everything.
6. Be patient always . You will only regret when you weren't.
7. Create some magic. Appeal to his imagination.
8. Let him gravitate towards his own passion- not yours.
9. Take him to ball games/ concerts / things he likes etc while young.
10. Be kind, keep your voice kind, be kind to his Mom.
I have a 16 year old that is exceeding any expectations I ever had a right to expect. It's almost like he's not mine , lol. The more you respect and nourish him, the more he'll bloom. Save any harshness for someone who doesn't have your last name.

You mean you don't see them? They're right there. I guess Chicken doesn't want you to see them.

Worked out fine in my family and countless others. I've seen too many little kids that don't listen and their parents don't do shite about it.
Parents that whip are almost as lazy as parents that don't do anything. I said almost.
If whipping your kid is effective, you could put in a little extra effort with non-physical consequences and be way more effective.
ETA: I'm not judging anyone. I've done it myself. It's how most of us were raised.

Spanking cuts through the clutter and gets their undivided attention faster than any of the crap you are spouting.
It is especially valuable in averting potentially dangerous situations as in playing near a road, sticking paper clips in electric outlets, playing with matches, swimming or any of a hundred situations a kid may put themselves in.
