They aren’t opening the Morganza because the ORCS is compromised. They identified the issues during the last opening but due to politics and funding did not fix it.

How much time have you spent in the spillway? I’ve been all over it. There aren’t that many camps. The camps that are there are made of cinder blocks, plywood, and tin. There are no rich, palatial retreats.

Higher river levels will resist storm surge, actually. You don't just stack the surge on whatever the river level is.

You don’t have a clue. What you just said is ridiculous. Opening the Spillway will not add any damage to the ORCS.

I can't believe this rumor is still making the rounds.

Your the one that’s clueless. There are no big fancy camps in the spillway. The only people that have any vested interests in it not opening are a small had full of farmers.

I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to comprehend that the core of engineers has set guideline that they have to follow.

I am not advocating in running the Spillway. Read what I was replying to. I know what is going on with the river.

Well to add on that note. The actual structure in Morganza had a decent amount of erosion after the last opening. They did a lot to work to the bottom of the structure the last couple of years.

Take it for what it’s worth, but that whole infrastructure wasn’t designed to be opened regularly. It was for a once in a life time event.

I’m from that general area and know people that work and having dealings with that whole matter. It’s my understanding they don’t have a lot of confidence in the structure.

Sadly, this is probably the truth. This state is ran by some grade A jackasses

No one said it would reduce surge.
you want to reduce the MS river level so the storm surge would be less.

But I'd rather a 3 ft surge on top of a 13 ft water level instead of a 16 ft one.

do you think the storm surge travels up the river? i mean i guess it would.... but that would be well after all of new orleans is under water. Surge might make the river stack on itself but that is pebbles compared to what a ture storm surge will do.
