now essentially everything around the river is under a flood warning. we're likely about to get a ton of additional rain. and there's no where else for the water to go...?

sorry, folks who built houses in a flood plain. but this is pretty insane.

We’ll be fine. I’d be more worried about the rivers without levees.

has NWS had BR and NO under a flood warning for the last few months? Honest question; I missed this if so. b/c basically everything from BR south is under a flood warning due to the river

Because no flood, no destruction, no destruction, no big contracts for politican buddies and no kick backs. Just follow the disaster money and you will understand.

You think the lower Mississippi River drains water form Baton Rouge and New Orleans: lulz

Some politically connected people own land in the Morganza that might get a little floodwater. So much better to risk a catastrophic levee collapse in NOLA.

It basically has to rain on the river to get into the river.

That's not the issue.

The issue is by opening up more gates, we can lower the river level. Then if a storm surge comes UP the river, we have more room to hold the surge.

Yep. Local rains don’t really affect the Mississippi River.

The crawfish farmer cartel controls when the Morganza Spillway opens or closes. You don't follow commodities?

Because, luckily, these decisions are being made by hydrologists and civil engineers who understand the river and the purposes of the spillways - rather than operating the spillways based on the opinion of the OT

That would be exciting. They should let us do it every 10 years or so.
