A lot of people think they need to exercise, when really all they need is to change their diet. If you wanna lose weight, stop eating shitty food. If you wanna bulk up, hit the weights. If you want better stamina, do cardio (and stop eating shitty food).

Yeah you can’t out run a bad diet. Plenty of people out there jump on a treadmill for a while in the gym, but continue to eat horribly. Then they get frustrated they’re not losing weight and eventually quit exercising. Changing your diet isn’t the easiest either (food cravings) but it’s the most important for weight loss.

Or maybe they do go on some diet but it’s like a fad one that isn’t quite sustainable.

If I don;t do it in the morning, I am too tired at the end of the day... plus motivation.

I exercise at night bc I’m just not a morning person. I used to be at the gym for 5AM but I saw no improvements - so 9pm it is for me

You sound a lot like me. I don’t injure myself because I don’t use heavy weights. I’m not very strong and get very intimidated in a gym where everyone else seems to know exactly what they’re doing and I’m wandering around like a lost goose. Because I felt so uncomfortable, I hated it and rarely went.

I’ve recently joined Orangetheory fitness to just get an all around fitness routine habit started. I actually enjoy it. Very light weights, but still working all muscle groups so at least I’m learning the different exercises and building muscle memory. I’ll never be throwing big dumbbells around but I don’t want to either.

Plus, lots of woman there at all times. I don’t feel Nearly as I uncomfortable and I actually look forward to it.

So, just food for thought from another exercise hater

Enough, damn it. It’s because that shite ain’t fun and takes too much effort. You happy now? Yes I’d rather be laid up watching WWIi documentaries with some boiled peanuts and mtn dew. There, I said it.

At 62, I don’t hate but actually enjoy exercising. I run four days a week and walk the other three.

Everyone needs to exercise.

Even if you are not trying to lose weight, you still need to exercise for its health benefits, which are lengthy and extend far beyond just burning calories.

To each their own, but this is a strange combo.

I’m 48 probably 30-40 lbs overweight. When I was 21 in the services lifting weights with a body builder I would eat sun up to sun down and take a 2000 calorie shake and not gain a pound. I’m guessing 4500-5000 calories a day. Zero weight gain. So congrats fricktard you’re young

bullshite excuses, baw. I’m a year older than you, not over weight, and just finished running 5 miles and doing 200 push ups and crunches, like I do every day. Get off your arse and get to work.

It was kinda put together to seem that way. But IMO those things are pretty awesome in their own right. Boiled peanuts are an aphrodisiac.

I know it is. Biggest obstacle I’ve noticed over time is sticking with a routine, long term.

My wife likes my little hairy middle age dad gut. I thought awhile back the internet said that women where more attracted to middle aged men with a lil gut on them.

I happen to have some expertise in that area. You’re exactly correct and what’s behind it is the mate senses you’re a good provider of food and sustenance. An effective hunter-gatherer. Which in turn makes them want the d.

I have found with treadmills the best thing to do is immerse yourself in a podcast so that you're not even thinking much about the run.
I put on long live Grateful Dead jams with high pace like Going Down the Road, Fire on the Mountain, Playing in the Band etc. Two songs and its been half an hour.

Honestly, if my job had a locker room, I’d go running around our campus. I’m not going to run in the morning. I’m sleeping. I’m not going running in the afternoon, kids bedtime and then I’m tired. Lunch time would be the best for me. But, there’s no place to shower at the office.

I go through cycles of hardcore working out for months at a time. Then I’ll take a rest week here and there. Sometimes that week turns into 2, then 3, then 6 weeks have passed without working out. Then you have to struggle with yourself to motivate yourself to get back on and when you do, you don’t want to miss.
I think the tough part for most people is to find the motivation to start AND get past the first week of soreness.
