I have a friend who works for BRFD who said they are talking about having to lay off a good bit of firefighters if it passes, sucks they put their lives on the line and gunna lose their jobs because St. George wants to be independent of BR

The state has told them that if they want their own independent school district, they have to have their own city.

Isn’t that what happened with the city of Central?

The St. George area has funded and been covered by the St. George and East Side Fire Departments since the 70s, so they should direct their concerns towards their employer.

Why? The St. George area has it's own fire departments. The only way BRFD would have to lay people off is if they are using St. George money to pay for departments that don't work in the St. George area. Oh wait......

Idk, it could be a scare tactic but if the city of BR gets its budget cut then they would have to trim the fat somewhere.

Again and?

St George has been paying for it departments and then some.

I live in BR. So it's gonna suck but that's life. Baton Rouge should have incorporated and treated the area better, fought back for neighborhood schools.

People in St.G don't pay for BRFD (at least, they're not supposed to). They are in the St. George Fire District and pay a separate tax for that.

Wouldn't this hurt chs Parkview etc?

In what way would this be true? And why should it matter in the context of this matter?

I will say that Central/Zachary going independent was the death knell for Redemptorist HS and many other NBR catholic schools.

But CHS/SJA/STM/Parkview are all a bigger draw than RHS was at the time

There will always be a "market" for those schools. If any get nicked, it would be Parkview

Your friend is telling us what we all surmised, SG taxpayers are paying for their separate fire department and for a significant part of Baton Rouge’s,

Better schools means mom and dad doesn’t have to pay to send junior to a private school to get an education. So to answer your question is some people that would have went to private or parochial schools can save that money. Who in the hell would not want to save a minimum of $5,000 a year. And that is for the cheap schools

These type of lies should tell everyone what they should vote for if, somehow, they haven't figured it out yet.

I agree the metro council does not care if they annex shopping centers which St George Fire District will eventually lose those tax dollars while having to service the area.

Having a defined city will help the department prosper and have a steady tax base to keep the services up without raising taxes sky high.
