That's more the wages of a 15-20 year man.

A new hire in the high 20s and average is right around 40.

The cost of living in most of coal country has always been very low but yet miners had very little.

When I speak about moving away from the oil and natural gas industry, there are so many reasons why that I can’t even articulate it. The culture is hidden... unless you REALLY get in it... and it is gross.

What are you talking about? I know, literally, hundreds of people in the oil and gas industry. I am in the oil and Gas industry. The only people I have ever met anything close to like the 2 examples you gave were either entrepreneurs/business owners who would likely have been successful in any industry that provided opportunities to a driven person or people who were actually not in the oil industry but very successful in an town dominated by oil and gas.

It sounds like what you really have an issue with are very wealthy, quirky people whose lifestyle choices you disagree with.

Would anyone let someone shoot them with a rubber bullet to see how it feels? I always wanted to know how it feels.. Is it enough to keep someone down for a few seconds, few minutes... what?

so you want to move the state away from it;s primary employers and revenue streams because you;re jealous of other people's success?

Honestly, while I am all for people making as much money as possible, I do not think it is healthy for Louisiana to depend, as much as it does, on the oil & gas industry. If there were other major industry in La, it would help the class gap so I think it is healthy for us to think beyond oil & gas, the medical industry and tourism.

That psycho has some nerve bitching about fathers who don't interact with their children considering the population she white knights for.

And when they get rich off some other venture, they’ll do, you guessed it, the exact same stuff!

Assuming some of that is a problem (child neglect is), it’s a people issue, not an industry one.

What country is she from? It takes a while for these women from other countries to learn the language. Or are you implying that she is an LSU graduate?

This state hit a freaking gold mine a few years ago with natural gas. It ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

Then why is the state still broke and everyone is poor?

There are certain industries that only really benefit a small portion of those involved with it. In other words, the trickle-down economic effect is very small. Interestingly, Louisiana is heavily involved and two of the top ones. Oil and gas and tourism.

General manufacturing is what is really needed to build a strong middle class. It's what made this country strong in the 50s and 60s, it's what keeps Germany strong to this day and in control of their entire continent and it's what's got China on the rise for the first time in generations.

How people don't understand the lessons of history is beyond me.
