Why is USPS the same price as FedEx if they are government funded?

You would think USPS would be cheaper than it is if they are receiving funding from the government. What am I missing here? How can a private company turn a profit at relatively the same prices and a government run service almost always run a deficit.

They have to have a fully funded retirement.

The labor and benefits costs for USPS are significantly higher, I would think.

I can't really answer this... And I could be wrong, but I want to say even with USPS charging the same prices as FedEx, they still end every year with a deficit.

how much do you think it cost to mail an envelope Fed Ex?

Retirement.
Can't fire those who underperform.
Lots of people are working there solely due to skin color, political connections, etc.

Because Fedex, shockingly, is worse than USPS.
They’re the only carrier I’ve come across that has given hard delivery dates only to tell me that the delivery date can be up to a week longer than posted.

I know the answer, and so do you, but the postal workers here will deny....as soon as they get back from their 3-hour lunch break.

Fedex charges .55 cents to mail a letter across the country?

Your entire thread is odd.
Fed X is way higher than USPS.
Not even close

I tell you this about USPS. My deposit check was mailed from Louisiana to Houston TX on the 3rd and I still haven't rec'd it. A freaking envelope.
Before you start, I changed my forwarding address 3 days in advance so it's not because of that or at least, that's not a valid excuse for the delay.

I find USPS to be the cheapest unless you are doing overnight or heavy stuff. Perhaps it's a location thing.

I work in eCommerce. We use FedEx to ship hundreds of packages a day across the world. Even with our negotiated rates (which are very good), FedEx is still higher than USPS.

This is a fact.
Awhile back I had a package that showed it was in Baton Rouge. So I expected to get it later that day or the next day. Two days later it didn't arrive. I checked to see the status and it had just left a location in Mississippi heading to Memphis where it would then go to Donaldsonville, La.. And to me.
That shite blew my mind. It had to go from Baton Rouge to Memphis to make it to Donaldsonville, which is further from where I live than Baton Rouge.
And that wasn't the first time I had problems with Fedex.

to catch up on all the stamps they didn't sell when the fax machine and emails were invented.

Hell FedEx can get your package to you on time. The USPS not so much and they are a total shite show.

Also USPS has a ton of rural offices that bleed money

BREC is same way. You should pay a discount to golf there as an EBR citizen. People in WBR, WF, LP and Ascension get same price as you when you subsidize it.

Was more talking about packages. Their package pricing is pretty similar.
