Yeah, the state is a shithole in many ways. Yeah, the state government has never done much to inspire confidence in its people. Yeah, the lack of jobs and a parasitic underclass make many people want to move away.

Add in the oppressive heat, pest and humidity and you answered your own question.

a lot of that stuff only impacts poor people. Is a middle to upper middle class life really that better in Texas than Louisiana?
While true, that class is taking over more and more and influencing who's in charge of local and state governments. Those are also the growing number of people that are nothing more than a drain on the economy and the reason why no one wants their kids in public school.

That’s a good point. Like I said I enjoy life in LA but things have been declining for a long time. It would have to get bad for me to move to TX though. Which it very well might.
Still would rather move to a Nola or BR suburb than a TX one though.

The problem is that we're about at the tipping point. Once we're past it, the decline will happen at an exponentially increasing pace.

That’s a fair point, but it’s happening everywhere. it’s just a little faster in Louisiana. Texas will be blue soon enough.

It’s absolutely untrue that being upper class in New Orleans is as good. You’re surrounded by idiots.
For example, if you live in Audubon Place and go to Walgreens you’re going to have to deal with absolute idiots working and whatever riff raff ambles in.
There is no escaping shitty low class people with attitude in the Nola metro region. People seem angry all the time which is odd considering it’s such a party town.
It’s amazing what being around educated and not angry people is like on a day in day basis. Never once have I gone to Popeyes in Texas and had them run out of chicken. Or get attitude when checking out at the grocery.
You can ignore that shite but it’s bad and is not like that other places.
The racial tension in Nola is real and depressing.

You should stick to your infrastructure and school arguments amigo. This anecdotal bullshite doesn’t hold much water.
ETA: and once again you seem to be comparing TX suburbs/small towns to cities like Nola

I love Louisiana and will be back. But. Think about the complaints and “knocks” on Texas “soulless without character cookie cutter homes and strip malls etc” how does that happen? An influx of businesses and people from other areas. Think about that. The problems with Texas is that there is an influx of business and construction and people are trying to get there.
It’s tough because of the ease of access and near similarities (in Terms of climate, natural resources etc.) between Louisiana and east Texas but one state took care of itself and invested in itself and one didn’t. The fact that you have economic behemoths of Houston and Dallas means there is a ton of cross over so you will hear people brag about their decision of leaving more than the average person from Mississippi
For me the pluses are big but Louisiana is family and home which means more as time goes on so I will likely be moving back sometime soon. It will be a tough decision though

I just don’t understand why this conversation always becomes either LA or TX. As if those are the only options of places to choose to live.
Not directed specifically at you, Sun. Just an observation.

I grew up in Metairie. There are more morons and worse service there than in Comparable Texas suburbs.
I agree though that the debate is old and tired. To each their own. I’m happy to be gone and perfectly happy for those who enjoy it there.
Also agree there’s a hell of a lot more to the country than Texas and Louisiana. I’m intrigued by going out west or anywhere outside the Deep South or big cities of the northeast.

Texas is a perfectly fine state and proximity to LA makes it an understandable choice for many that leave the state.
My issue is that one of my least favorite things about Louisiana is the weather and terrain. If I was leaving, a cooler climate with seasons would be pretty high up my list.

To be honest, I really don’t care if people stay or move away. We all have our reasons for staying or leaving and I’m not one to judge or bash anyone for whatever they choose to do. As for me, I chose to move home to Louisiana from California when I retired from the Air Force to be near my only surviving family member, my sister. I have been blessed with a great job, an ever increasing circle of friends, get to attend LSU football and baseball games, and a am enjoying a great life. Not one time since I made the decision to move back have I regretted it. The military taught me that any place is what you make it. You can either hate it and be miserable or get out and enjoy, making the best of where you are. I really have no desire to leave at this moment.

It's hard to put a value on raising my daughter around my parents, her cousins and extended family. We also make a perfectly fine living here which helps.

I agree in hating the terrain and weather of louisiana. I prefer mountains but hills will do for now. Still hot as hell but less humid and no ridiculous daily thunderstorms, flooding and hurricanes so we’ve got that going for us which is nice.
Houston weather is as bad as Louisiana and maybe worse. Flat and fugly too

It's the mudminnow corollary.

Usually it’s posts like “Finally got out of LA” or “Should I take this job offer in Dallas?” as if LA has been holding these brainiacs hostage
