Of course, especially the Latinos.

Indeed. I love watching Astros postgame with all the player interviews that need a translator.

But don't worry. Zayden is totally headed for a call up. All those weekends in the truck will totally payoff.

There is a movement for entire Travel Ball teams to join the local rec league and play together for the season against the rec teams to become that league's all star team with a chance to make it Williamsport

That's... that's a new low for adults.

Most people would tell you that a league all-star selection process is rigged/corrupted, but I don't think I've ever seen it so obvious.

So not only are you going to ruin the rec season with a team of ringers, but you are also going to ruin any chance of a rec kid making the all-star team. Despite the fact that there is probably 2-3 kids, at least, that play rec ball, that are better than kids on the travel team.

Won’t happen. These kids don’t have the arms to play REC ball during the week and then play travel on the weekends. Thats the reason most kids stop playing REC once they turn 9 years old.

I agree about baseball. That guy's post said he saw it in softball, and I could see it happening in softball, where you don't have the pitching issues that baseball has.

I have had friends try to engage the LL folks with hopes to get a team to the World Series possibly and they get extremely frustrated. You can just sign up a team, so that is not an issue, the issue seems to be the management of the league.

I don't know if this is still true, but at one time, LL wanted all volunteer umpires. That's gotta be a challenge.

It's not just LL and "rec league" ball getting killed by the watering down of tourney baseball (travel ball) with everyone thinking their kid has to do it. It's hurt American Legion big time as well. These absurd "Showcase" teams are swallowing up all the gullible idiots and sucking them out of Amer Legion in the summers. Thinking a bunch of college coaches are going to come watch their 15-17 year old and offer him a scholly. Its a huge racquet and people are falling for it more and more.

Seems like school ball would be more inviting to kids that age. He’ll, my 13 yr old is done with tournament ball. After 32 final appearances that shite loses its luster.

A few things...

- Little League baseball (majors) you see on tv right now is a division of league within LL. It’s closed bases. You can’t leave the base until the ball crosses the plate.
- LL also has Intermediate division 11-13yr olds and its more like travel ball distances, open bases etc., but you still can’t use the hot bat. Little Brayden/Jaxton ain’t hitting as many dingers. Intermediate tournaments just wrapped up last week or so, and was also televised.
- The LL mound is 4ft shorter to home plate than you travel baws are used to AND they have a age date cutoff. So, your 14yr old that is held back in the 6th grade still isn’t eligible to play LL, unlike USSSA.
- These East Bank kids...they are travel ball kids who some of them have been playing travel ball for almost a year now...and also played in Cooperstown. They are 75-15.
- they signed up to play REC ball for LL and had played Dixie in the past rec years
- They had four rec teams... the kids were on different rec teams from what I can tell, based on East Bank website
- LL requires you to play 12 rec games at a minimum before putting an Allstar team together

What’s better? I don’t know... we’ve played school ball, Dixie, USSSA, 2D and little league the past few years.

When all the more talented kids leave there are fewer in the rec league

Don't underestimate the impact of a lack of good coaches has on Rec leagues. Many tournament ball teams have dads as coaches in some capacity.

While I understand there is the "daddy ball" perception out there, I found it to be rare. If a coach sacrifices the team so his kid can be the centerpiece of a team and he shouldn't be, parents take their kids and find someone who doesn't.

In general, most dads have good intentions and eventually give way to better coaches as the kids develop in age or talent. And that takes away from exposing players to good coaching at the rec level.

which sucks because Legion summer ball was the most fun I had playing.

Don't mean to bump an old thread, but does Louisiana's first LLWS title do anything to help get LL in Baton Rouge?

There is a lot of talk from USSSA teams in many areas to get one started, but it is a good bit of bullshite to navigate, as it should be. Little League really doesn't need to start letting travel teams just show up and play Little League without paying the penalty. It just would not be fair to the legacy Little League leagues.

There is a lot of good baseball in little league, but you can see some 12U major teams that are just as good or better than most all of the all star teams at most tournaments.

I agree. But if it anything like the local Alexandria Little league the worst travel team in the area would win every game and have an average score of 12-0.
