I don’t get it. Hasn’t government assistance for the pandemic ended?
Serious replies only please.

Lot of boomers retired.
Cash economy.
Lot of women fell out of workforce.

Because people are lazy and entitled.

A lot of people close to retirement decided to retire. Many places increased wages so less people are working 2 jobs to make ends meet. Many people working gig jobs - Uber, Door Dash, etc.

Pandemic assistance ended well over a year ago. Most of the replies you get will cite to it regardless, or just say that people are lazy. Any discussion of actual labor market forces between employees and employers will, for the most part, be ignored.

Employment for most places are at an all time high which makes the available jobs stat so strange. I am also not 100% how they account for part time jobs.
Remote work has given people who would have otherwise had one or two part-time jobs (especially in retail/customer service) to consolidate their efforts into a single, remote job.
Also the economy boomed during the recovery so companies were able to add more line of service/products so they need more employees to keep up with demand.

Boomers retired en masse, the younger people got promoted, nobody wants to hire super green but rather 5-10 year people.
Thanks boomers, you ruined it again.

The vast majority of those weren't even in the workforce to begin with. On top of the fact most would have died within a year or two anyway.

There were over 1,000,000 Covid deaths and they were all young healthy workforce people

OK, being serious.
1. Population migration - I think the past couple years changed the population numbers more than we realize.
2. Gig jobs - The world being locked down made some new opportunities for you service industry staff. I think a lot entered the world of gig work and are reluctant to return. This will clear itself out soon when their pay drops.
3. Free money and free stuff - Free money was flowing and rent was not due. Worthless people were able to actually save up money. That has ended, however it takes time to unravel.
4. Cheap living - It seems prices got stagnant or even lowered through the past couple years. Those working could really save. That has come to a screeching halt with current inflation.
5. Lazy people - People got fat and lazy during the pandemic. They do not want to go back to work and companies are still reluctant to make them. Many places are forcing their hand now and that pain will be part of 2022.

Because it takes a few months after the government checks stop rolling in for the useless to realize they won’t get paid for doing nothing. Then a couple more months of them waiting it out and hoping they resume again. Then another month or 2 for them to bitch about no free money and “protesting” lack of living wage. All in all, the useless take about a year or more before they realize that poverty isn’t going to get them virtue signaling points before they go back to work.

Not enough Guatemalans.
Literally have 3 standing in office and a warehouse full that never bitch.

remember when you all argued with Mingo for like 20 pages because he said labor shortages wouldn't just end after the government assistance ran out and that other market forces were at play?
maybe y'all owe Mingo an apology?
