No I don't. I'm admittedly ignorant to it.

But what I do know as an observer, is that Texas has no problems building infrastructure. Why does Louisiana struggle so much with it?

A lot of major surface streets are city-owned, and the last Green Light Plan was just recently voted down in the last election, probably by all these know-it-all traffic planners in this thread. That way, they can do like you and bitch about nothing being done.

Fair point.

But honestly I've never really noticed Bluebonnet being in that bad of shape. The big one I noticed recently was a huge bump in the middle of College Drive, but as of this weekend, it looks like they're finally addressing that.

It's in pretty rough shape. There are countless patches in the same spots. I don't think the College Dr. issue was proactive. Sounds like there was a major blowout that prompted that (IIRC).

have you seen the size of texas? Texas does have better financial avenues. Construction is cheaper in texas due to the soils. I could list a few more.

Y'all should just double-deck that one exit only right lane using the merge lane as the ramp.

Ok, so let's throw out Texas. Let's talk about Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia - all states that I've travelled through that have better infrastructure than Louisiana. What are those states doing that Louisiana isn't?

Throw in South and North Carolina as well. Very nice roads in those states.

All I'm trying to say is it's very rarely the "idiots over at DOTD" why things aren't getting done. It's almost always the public. In the case of a new bridge crossing and loops, it was the surrounding parishes protesting every public meeting and convincing the parish presidents that their people didn't want it. In the case of city streets, it's the very constituents that live in the city not voting to continue transportation improvement projects.

And take this thread for example. Maybe one positive post. If it was up to tigerdroppings, this project wouldn't get done. Then, when all this area is developed and this exit and Nicholson are both clusters, it'd be "stupid BR not planning ahead. How didn't they see this coming with all the development around here?"

Even while this is under construction, they'll be bitching about that too. Can't make em happy.

Government entities have to spend all of their money, or they'll have "budget cuts" the next year

Honestly, I think it really started to get ugly with Edwards and Bob Graves. Infrastructure budgets needed to keep up with 20 year growth projections were squandered. It never caught up.

Do Louisiana companies get punished for not meeting deadlines or going over budget? Does the state prohibit them from bidding, even though they have a history of not meeting deadlines and going over budget on every single project they do?

How about other states?

To avoid congestion with people turning left onto Nicholson. By extending the ramp to Oklahoma it provides more room for traffic to build before it impedes the traffic turning right on Nicholson.

I could look at Google Maps and figure that out.

Two reasons. First they claim that traffic sometimes backs up to the ramp. Actual reason? Direct access for the Water Campus.

I never said anything negative. It was just that I thought it was unncessary at this moment. I believe other projects could be done first before future proofing a road. An example would be the project that was in study that would essentially close the washington st exit and create an exit on 110 to one of the roads such as Terrace so that people don't cross over so many lanes to get to Washington.

Only on LSU gameday for a big game (Bama, top ten opponent, etc.)

I travel that bridge every week, and have never seen that exit backed up.

Of course. That construction company that was fricking up I-10 around the 10/12 split was fired. They stayed in litigation over that for awhile before they could move on to another contractor. But again to my point, none of that was understood, it was just "stupid DOTD takes 10 years to build something but Texas blah blah..."

Don't know about every single project, but for big projects, they submit a plan and it's reviewed and scored on a lot of criteria. The highest score gets the project. Cost is a huge factor, but one of those I think has something to do with their overall capability.
