DOTD to hold I-10 widening public meetings
quote:
Baton Rouge, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will hold three public meetings to gather public input regarding the proposed improvements along I-10 from LA 415 in Port Allen to Essen Lane in Baton Rouge.
This proposed project will be partially funded with $360 million through Grant Anticipation Revenue Vehicle Bonds, also known as GARVEE Bonds, which was announced earlier this year as part of the State’s Transportation Master Plan.
The meetings will be held in an open house format where attendees can ask questions and receive information regarding the widening of I-10. There will be a presentation at the start of the meeting and the same information will be provided in a taped presentation that will be shown continuously during the meeting. A continuous multi-media presentation will be shown at the meeting, as well as additional project information such as exhibits, alternative plans and an interactive exercise that will be available for the public to submit input regarding community connections and context sensitive solutions.
Representatives from DOTD and the project team will be available at the open house to answer questions and discuss issues related to the project.
The public meetings will be held at the following time and locations:
Tuesday, August 28, 2018
5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
McKinley Middle Magnet School
1550 Eddie Robinson Sr. Drive
Baton Rouge, LA 70802
Wednesday, August 29, 2018
5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Addis Community Center
7520 Highway 1 South
Addis, LA 70710
Thursday, August 30, 2018
5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Baton Rouge Marriott
5500 Hilton Ave.
Baton Rouge, LA 70808
The bridge issues have been in the process for a long time. Just the fact that they're having public meetings and showing alternatives means they're well into the environmental phase. A project of that magnitude is an environmental nightmare, and getting the clearance from FHWA to affect an interstate, on ramps and off ramps, is a huge task and will take a long time. I'm glad to see things are moving.

All those improvements will help a little, but there needs to be a new corridor. BR will still be the biggest bottleneck on the 2500 miles of I-10

I see this a lot in these threads. You guys confuse "DOTD" with the city and the feds quite a bit.

It seems like the people making all of these decision usually dont even live in the city or sometimes not even the state that they "represent"
Just a couple of old, out of touch idiots.

Because the new CPRA is right there and that is going to be a traffic nightmare soon.
CPRA has been there for a while, though. Unless you're meaning since they've finished the new Water Institute of the Gulf building and the entirety of the "water campus," when completed, being a problem in the future..

Looks like the left turn to terrace is eliminated

Check out page 7, it looks like the redesign would include a new access to get back to Terrace.
Yep, that is what I predicted. I still don't see why that was necessary.

You're talking in circles. First you said they're ignoring major problems, but I'm showing you that the corridor widening through the worst part of I-10 has been in the process for awhile now. If they weren't addressing, you'd be bitching about that, too. You've set it up to where no matter what's being done or not being done, you can bitch about it.
Then you said they have money to burn. If that was the case, they would be doing this "new corridor" you're talking about. If you're talking about a new bridge crossing and something that resembled the loop, then we're talking multiple billions, which is orders of magnitude greater than what this would be. That was so expensive, tax money woulnd't even cover it. It'd be fronted by investors and then tolled to pay them back. In this instance, it looks like they're doing what they can with the money (and the support) that they have. I can't really be upset about that.
If you want to blame someone for the loop not happening, point the finger at the local surrounding parishes that didn't want it, not the "DOTD" bogeyman.

The plan includes relocating the I-10 East exit ramp that feeds into Terrace Street so that it would instead feed into Oklahoma Street.
They planning on putting a light there? Otherwise, it will be a bigger clusterfrick than it is currently.

I also mentioned there were major surface streets that need major work. Did you address any of those?
You mean to tell me these funds couldn't be used to address the bone jarring street underneath the RR overpass on Bluebonnet?

I don't get you guys. It's always "Baton Rouge is so dumb. They never plan for the future. Build the roads now BEFORE the traffic comes, etc."
Now with the big Water Campus development coming and the empty area between LSU and downtown being developed, this exit and Nicholson in general will generate much more traffic. Looks like they're actually planning for the future this time, and all y'all do is bitch.
Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

A lot of major surface streets are city-owned, and the last Green Light Plan was just recently voted down in the last election, probably by all these know-it-all traffic planners in this thread. That way, they can do like you and bitch about nothing being done.

But honestly I've never really noticed Bluebonnet being in that bad of shape. The big one I noticed recently was a huge bump in the middle of College Drive, but as of this weekend, it looks like they're finally addressing that.

Baton Rouge Residents bitch about Problems yet they keep electing the same people to office who ignore the problems. It is a self made problem.
