I was told several times when I worked in the area that Jefferson County had the highest ratio of trial lawyers per population than any other county/parish in the country.

No idea if that was remotely true, but several residents from Nederland and Beaumont told me that.

Right but BR doesn't exist solely or mostly to the plants

Solely? No. Baton Rouge also has LSU and state government
Mostly? Absolutely. Exxon, Dow, Honeywell, the Port of Baton Rouge, Placid, Air Products, and all of the plants downriver are the br economy.

Honestly it’s drugs. Drug use is so rampant in port Arthur that most people can’t pass the drug screening to get the plant jobs. The jobs they can get are low level and low paying. They get more by collecting welfare.

This was out of the mouths of members of their development department a few years ago. It’s a shame

That’s the salt of Texas Bruh. East Texas used to spill oil back in the day.

I went to Port Arthur to do some clean up after Harvey. It seemed like good people living there, but I can't imagine walking in my backyard and seeing a bunch of flare stacks all along the skyline.

God Almighty yes.

Whenever I take a weekend trip to Houston, the #1 thing I always dreaded was driving through the Beaumont area.

Lol at the proximity to Louisiana crap. Those shite holes are Texas, and your almighty best state ever has to own up to it. Probably the best things on that side of the border are the Boudin shops and crawfish stands and the most those piles of trash look forward to is bringing their money to the Isle of Debri, Lauberge and Golden Nugget.

Because it's in the non-Austin part of Texas.
