Because back in the day they didn’t have contraceptives and no one wanted a bunch of whore children running around their neighborhoods while their moms suffered from various degrees of crotch rot.

I live in Germany and it is legal here. It is regulated into certain areas and my father in law used to rent some of his apartments to some prostitutes. It is like everything it has its pros and cons.

Exactly, the arguments that say “one can find it if they want to” are bullshite, same goes for things like marijuana legalization. Like yes, one can find anything they want if they try hard enough, that has zero bearing on whether that activity should be legal or not. Many people don’t want to dip their toe in criminal activities because they know it is a slippery slope. It’s why these things that are harmless(or have equivalents that are equal or more harmful that are legal) shouldn’t be criminalized
