Dude Popeyes is and always has been a craps shoot. Sometimes you get food, other times you say "frick this" after 5 minutes and drive off. You never wait on that place ever. If they do something stupid, you drive off. Learn the rule of Popeyes son.

Because it's been sold and resold and split up with Copeland keeping the spice formula, which I think he then sold.
Each subsequent iteration of ownership cuts costs more and more, skimping on ingredients, until we have the crap we have now. The biscuits used to be legit, but now they're just little frozen pucks of shite.
But culchicken is a real thing. I got some horrifying looking boxes of chicken back in the day, especially in New Orleans, all the while nice, golden chicken was heaped on the racks behind the counter. That chicken always made it home with employees every night. Customers got crap.
The shite they serve now is an embarrassment compared to what they had 25 years ago.

Although they sold the recipes to Popeyes a few years ago for 43 million, they still supply Popeyes with the spices used in the recipes under some kind of agreement they have. Pretty smart...guaranteed to just keep the money rolling in.
Popeyes chicken is still usually awesome (better at certain locations than others sometimes). The chicken does seem smaller, but the big-arse breast is still huge. The biscuits are very inconsistent. Sometimes they are delicious and sometimes they are undercooked and hard. Their red beans, mashed potatoes and fries are always good. And they should bring back the old onion rings which were awesome.
