Why is LSU BOS involved in cancelling classes

These are the things I hate about LA.
Whether LSU should or should not cancel class should be up to the people who run the academics of the university, not a bunch of political appointees.
We hire people to run schools and universities, give them the power to make these decisions and then stand behind them. If you don't like the decisions, then replace them if you must, but don't go over their heads and make those decisions for them.
Edited to add first few paragraphs for those of you who can't figure out how to get around the blocker

LSU's Board of Supervisors has taken action to cancel class the day of and after the College Football Playoff national championship game, according to a university spokesperson.
A proposal to cancel class Monday and Tuesday was approved Friday morning in a morning Board of Supervisors committee meeting. The full board will vote on the proposal in the afternoon.
No. 1 LSU and No. 3 Clemson will face off in the championship game at 7:15 p.m. Monday.
Monday is the first day of the spring semester at LSU.
Earlier this week, an LSU spokesperson said the academic calendar wouldn't change.

the only thing you should actually be mad about is theadvocate not letting me read their articles without paying them

Like Harvard wouldn't cancel classes if they were playing for a NC 60 miles down the road?

this is some weird, petty shite to be melting over.

Y'all are turning this into rocket science.
Show up or don't show up. Nobody is giving a test on the first day.

Hardly anybody goes to all their classes anyway. The kids can just consciously not skip one they were planning to skip later, net it all out.
early in the semester, not a big deal

The State Constitution grants authority to the Board of Supervisors because it is state funded.
If you you don't like it....go to a Private University.

Any other job duties you'd like to change for the Board of Supervisors?

I for one wouldn’t got to class either way. I didn’t go to class the day after the Saints won the Super Bowl.

They might... but that's Harvard's decision to make, not a bunch of appointed political people.

Is campus open? Faculty/staff still need to show up? That would be perfect.

The State Constitution gives the board authority to meddle in the class schedule affairs of the university?
If that's true... that's even more of a reason to blow up the constitution and start over.

They should hire the head of the university / university system, and approve the budget. Approve certain high-dollar contracts. Serve as a hearing board for discipline or employment appeals. Set board policy strokes for the schools to follow.
That's it. Why are we paying a president/chancellor to run the school if the part-time BOS wants to do it themselves?

Lol whatever woman was talking on the radio assumes only 1100 students can possibly be at the game because that’s how many student tickets there are

Bingo. There's serious shite to consider when a shut down is hastily pulled off like this.
shite like Do these instructors get paid or is it unpaid vacation. What services will be functioning Monday and Tuesday. Cafeteria, Custodians/groundskeepers/physical plant in general, IT guys, HR,etc. EVERYTHING matters when it's public university.
OP can suck a pecker and go or not go.

Which is why I think the BOS trying to force this at the absolute last minute is such a bad idea...
It's not like we got hit with an ice storm last night. Campus heads have known for a while that this could be a thing. Once we beat Bama, they could have started thinking about this.

I don't think it requires the BOS, but I think it's the prerogative of the BOS if it wishes to. Everyone involved with the university ultimately answers to the BOS. If F. King didn't want to cancel classes, the BOS sure as hell did.
ETA: Any student worth a damn didn't care or need either entity's permission to get blind drunk Monday night and piss off on Tuesday's classes, though.

well the idiot academics didn't make the right call a week ago, showing how completely out of touch they are with their students and alumni.
