North Louisiana here. We're cool with everyone down south.

Besides the fact that there are very real cultural differences between parts of the state...
Louisiana is by far the most parochial place I've ever seen.
I blame Huey P Long.
Why? Because so much power runs through BR, so much money runs through BR, that it results in various parts of the state having to "compete" for attention from BR.
The more areas / people have to compete with one another, the more they become rivals, the more incentive they have to tear each other down.
Also, what is there for all of us as a state to be proud of, to come together as one to support? Even LSU sports can't say that.

quote:Y'all like to shite on everything, and I mean this in the most respectful way possible. Louisiana people love to bitch, complain, argue and disagree more than any folks I've ever seen. I sometimes think the only thing your state residents agree on is the crappy LA politics.
North Louisiana hates South Louisiana. South Louisiana hates North Louisiana. New Orleans hates the North Shore. Lafayette hates BR.
Just seems like the idea of STATE pride is non-existent. In other states when it comes to state pride it seems like people view their state as one state. They don’t shite on other regions to the extent that LA does.
The great things in life that we all love and enjoy like your cuisine, language and music are vastly different from North to South. This could be the root cause of the perception each region has for one another?

To be fair, Houston hates Dallas. We don’t know why tho.
I feel like Dallas hates Houston a lot more that Houston hates Dallas.
And that is simply because Dallas is pretentious and hates anyone that is a threat to them.
I am convinced there are more Cowboys fans in Houston, than Texans fans...

1) make fun of does not equal hatred
2) I can’t remember the last time north Louisiana came up in an irl conversation. It’s not on anyone’s mind down here.

Food, music, culture, wetlands, fishing, hunting, sports. same stuff that unites any other state. Louisiana has a lot to be proud of if they’d quit shitting on each other and realize it.
But that’s a good explanation otherwise. Makes sense. State government is too centralized. Way too much has to go through BR that has no business going through there.

It's pretty rare that I think about what's going on in Prairieville which is 7-8 miles from my house much less Monroe or Lafayette

I just feel like there’s room to love and appreciate both. South LA has the seafood and Cajun culture. North LA has Deep South culture and country cooking.

Lafayette is just different pockets of strip malls and McMansion...the university is also an eye sore. Terrible place

Only a few people in North Louisiana don’t like the wicked sinful ways of the heathens in South Louisiana. Besides that, most don’t dislike South Louisiana.
People in South Louisiana pretty much forget that North Louisiana exist.
People in Lafayette hate BR. People in BR think it’s funny. That makes Lafayette people hate them even more.
Everyone hates BR traffic.

The best part of the state is the NE corner, in the MS delta. We sit back on our oxbows with a toddy and laugh at the rest of you subhumans.

S. La checking in. I think ppl are so much diff from one city to the next. It's weird going to parts of N. La and not being able to buy alcohol in a grocery store. I think it's pretty cool we have marshes along the coast and hills/woods north of 10. I do think the hipster vibe in Laffy is weird though.

Yes we do attack each other wayyyy too much...
But when you are 48th, 49th, 50th in every state ranking that people pay attention to... it's hard not to have defeatist syndrome.
And when we have that... it's hard not to lash out at each other.

But zero of those are universal throughout the state. South has great fishing. North has great hunting. We have cultures but they are different. Same with food and music. NOLA is different from SW LA / Bayou which is different from the Blues culture of the NE state along the delta, which is different from the East Texas vibe in NW LA.
What's identified as LOUISIANA CULTURE is really only what's identified as Cajun culture. Which is a small part of the state.
The state's marketing has done a good job of showcasing how different our areas are, and how that's an advantage, but the locals don't get it.

You know what the state was like before Huey Long?
All the money and power ran through New Orleans - and stopped there.
There was no reason for any other part of the state to compete with anyone else for anything, because none of them were going to get shite anyway.
People love to shite on Huey, but he was the one who finally broke the corrupt political machine in New Orleans. And yes, Louisiana was corrupt as shite even before Huey came along. He was just the first one to spread the corruption out to the rest of the state.

South Louisiana does not hate north Louisiana, we just recognize the historical difference between predominantly Catholic culture and predominantly Protestant culture, and how over time, it shaped the State. And what do people in Nola, Baton Rouge and Lafayette have in common anyway? Everybody likes to party, sure, but they are three distinct cultures within just South Louisiana/s biggest three cities. This state is a gumbo. Maybe a shite gumbo.

You forgot that Baton Rouge hate (or is jealous) of New Orleans.

Every place has “culture”. Just some of those places are not interesting at all. Ie every part of Louisiana outside or New Orleans

Louisiana is a room full of retarded children arguing about which is the least retarded and why.
At the end of the day it doesnt really matter and nobody cares except the retarded children in the room.
