It would be far safer if you stopped and got a beer for the drive home and threw your cell phone in the trunk.

Whether it's billboards advertising, "let the traffic wait while you enjoy our happy hour"
One drink an hour isn't going to put anyone into the 'drunk' level, some people can probably handle 2 or 3 in an hour and still be perfectly legal to drive. There's a legal limit for a reason.

Or gas stations selling iced down coldies. I mean who really buys an iced down 16 or 24oz beer if there is no plan to crack it open as soon as they get back in the car.
Or maybe they are going to wait until they get home? You can't judge intentions.

So why is this such an accepted practice when the dangers and threat is so severe?
It's not. It's pretty well vilified here and elsewhere.

There is a difference between a drunk driver and a guy having a beer on his way home from work.
That said, if I'm a cop and I see taking a pull from a Tall Boy, I'm pulling you over.
Eff this state and it's shitty drunk drivers.

He's probably that cop who made it on a viral video taking down a Jaywalker in Austin.
Which one of these cops is you, BabyTac?

Pounding shots at Bulldog after drinking a Masons all day long and then speeding down Perkins Road should NOT be the same offense as 5 beers at happy hour.
There already are different consequences for each of those situations.

I may be wrong, but I believe you can technically "drink and drive" in North Dakota as long as you are under the legal limit.

Isn't that illegal? I thought open container was for anyone in the car.
How stupid is this law? Is it dangerous to drink and ride? Should they make it illegal for passengers to text too?

Maybe. Tends to happen in states that have more farm animals than humans.

but it is bad enough here that I won't drive after pretty much anything.
Plus you've had one too right??

Or maybe not everyone is as rampant an alcoholic as others. A couple of drinks affects everyone differently. Sure if you're used to drowning your sorrows in a 12 pack, nightly..you'll probably be OK. That's not the normal person, though.
So you have to be a raging alcoholic to not be badly impaired after 2 beers?

Oh but you can thank the Catholic influence for Louisiana's drinking and drinking and driving culture. The state differs from the rest of the Protestant Bible Belt south.
Thank god. It's the only thing that makes it tolerable

Does Louisiana have a statewide open container law or is it just local ordnances?
Speaking of local ordinances, my town has one that you can't sell alcohol through a drive up window. They came up with that decades ago and the reasoning was that obviously the drivers were going to start drinking immediately plow through school playground.

What kind of people are trashed after 2 drinks? I need to date one. Bar tab would be cheap as hell.

Passengers enjoying alcohol shouldn't be illegal.
