Hmmm, what if you are a drunk passenger?

Is there anywhere in the south other than Louisiana with a Catholic Majority?

Ya some NFL player got charged with a DUI a few years back when he was a passenger in his own car which I think is BS. If you know you are drunk, drunk enough where you can't drive, how can you be expected to judge the sobriety levels of anyone else?

Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was arrested late Wednesday in Nashville, Tenn., on a charge of driving under the influence, even though he wasn't the one driving.

McNair was charged with a little-known Tennessee misdemeanor offense, commonly referred to as "DUI by consent," which prohibits a vehicle owner from letting the vehicle be driven by someone who is inebriated.

Police pulled over McNair's 2003 silver Dodge pickup just before midnight for speeding about a mile from the quarterback's Nashville home and arrested the driver, who was identified as McNair's brother-in-law, after he failed a field sobriety test.

Drive thru where you can order mixed drinks

You can do this at pretty much every daiquiri shop in BR/ascension. You can buy anything behind the bar through a drive thru as long as it has a lid

The Story case wasn't one of DUI. It was a manslaughter case that involved a lot more participation than just allowing a drunk person to drive his car.

Also, that article left out some key parts of the quote from the court.

It is true that the owner of a vehicle who allows someone they know or should know is intoxicated or is likely to become intoxicated and drive, then the owner, whether a passenger or not, may be charged with DUI by consent.

Yeps yeps. Some bartenders may not know it and look at you funny b/c it's not that common.

The place in Vidalia is a liquor store though ,not a daq shop, and is why it's kinda blatant.

Penalties for drinking and driving, and distracted driving, should be huge compared to what they are today.

1st offense - 1 year in jail and loss of license for 2 years.
If you injure or kill someone, it should be able to rise to a manslaughter/murder charge.

Let's just go back to prohibition.

Only people getting weird looks are the ones that pay 3-4 dollars for a beer through a drive thu when they can have 4 of them for that price at the gas station across the street

I didn't say that. I just don't want people who are drinking on the roads. Get a cab/uber, etc.

I couldn't see me doing it for sure. I'm too poor and a 24 oz bud light and pint of Skol is like $6 and I'm good for the night.

Oh, I agree. That goal would be more easily achieved by just moving back to prohibition. That would get rid of the pesky "what constitutes being under the influence question."

There are also some little towns (where I live) in between Austin and San Antonio that are pretty lax on DUIs with the locals (Blanco, Johnson City, Driftwood).
Everyone pretty much knows everyone and as long as you aren't pissing yourself drunk, the officers here won't bust your balls for having some cold cervezas at your local ice house or BBQ joint.

Now, once you get into Austin, San Marcos, or San Antonio...that's a whole different story.

I've worked at one of those before and you'd be amazed at what you see and how much people will pay to not leave their car

One lady used to get 6 extra shots in her medium daqs (2-3 times a day)

The extra shots were either ever clear or cheap vodka, you could probably buy an entire bottle of that for what she was paying for basically a half a cup of alcohol

That's not legal in EBR unless they have a retail liquor license as well as an on-premise license. Technically even the daiquiri shops that let you walk out with one with the lid on is breaking the law. Just... no one cares.

Ascension is different.
