Because addicts typically are at the bottom rung of the socio-economic ladder. When they inevitably end up in the hospital due to OD'ing or getting alcohol poisoning, they can't afford the cost such a visit incurs. Who is responsible for paying the check at that point? The taxpayer.

The response our society decides is appropriate for drug addiction casualties cannot be used as reasoning for drug illegality. No one should have to pick up the tab for someone who abuses drugs. Still, addicts should have the right to kill themselves.

The better question is why aren’t all drugs legal

they should be.

Nannyism put a hold on natural selection. That's the wrong approach.

I don't believe in the government telling me or anyone else how they should live their lives.

I do believe that alcohol is a detriment to society as a whole and it's cons far outweigh it's pros.

A socially acceptable drug is still a drug. But freedom can only occur if people are free.

It’s true, drinking alcohol doesn’t solve your problems but it sure as shite helps you deal with them!

I believe anything one puts in their own body should be legal, but I get your point if other drugs are illegal why isn't alcohol.

It's funny to think about but if it was illegal and the general public weren't exposed to it much like say Acid or Meth, it would be crazy to think it would become legal after witnessing someone walk around blackout drunk.

Banning it won't do shite. Find ways to reduce the demand is the only way.

Pretty sure the common man won’t start drinking if it was against the law and he had to jump thru hoops to get it.

It’s not about protecting people from themselves now. It’s protecting the next generation.

Only drug that can cause death stopping cold turkey for addicts.

Most of these stats are due to the fact that it’s legal and readily available. It’s also glorified in commercials of every show you watch. Why is that OT? Why is the drug allowed?

Because adults can decide for themselves what they choose to imbibe. Adults assess the risk vs. reward for themselves. Adults get to decide for themselves if they want to do things that are healthy or unhealthy. Adults are autonomous and do not need jackasses with "Baby" in their name parenting them.

Its nannyism.

Its never worked. What you need is adults who make better decisions, not adults who can be more obedient.

I think the bigger question is why is alcohol the ONLY legal drug?

It’s more harmful that many others.

I’m fairly certain that the answer lies in the strength of the alcohol lobby. That and the fact that many of our elected reps are alcoholic

One of the biggest fallacies I've seen from weed proponents is this shite, which certainly causes people to turn off from your message.

I’m just glad that dangerous devils lettuce is illegal. People would be dropping like flies if they smoked that stuff.
