SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Mystery surrounds a two-story house that has been seen floating on the San Francisco Bay for at least three days.

Crowds were gathering along the waterfront at San Francisco’s Exploratorium to watch the solar eclipse on Monday when another unusual sight appeared: a big wooden house in the middle of the bay. The buoyant home navigated its way around Alcatraz Island with help from a slow tow boat.

Nexstar’s KRON tracked the house down on Tuesday and confirmed it is now anchored in Richardson Bay, north of San Francisco offshore from Sausalito. U.S. Coast Guard officials said the house was able to float around the bay because it’s on a barge.

The houseboat began its voyage somewhere south of the San Francisco Bay, the Coast Guard confirmed. It’s unclear who owns the home, how long it will remain anchored on the bay, nor where its final destination will be.

The houseboat is the second-to-last floating home at the Redwood City marina, which once housed more than 100 people. Efforts to evict the houseboat residents began in 2015 when nearby homeowners filed a lawsuit against the city. The city eventually settled with the group and the state declared that liveaboards are illegal there. But Docktown residents have hoped to avoid eviction and have since filed several subsequent lawsuits, and the city has awarded payouts for their relocation.

I'll wait until our resident San Fransisco Bay sea monster expert chimes in before I form an opinion on it.

Bad Mansard Roof HOF entry right here:

People just can’t resist attempting a Mansard roof and unless it’s properly done, it’s abysmal (or worse).

This works (Château de Dampierre):
