it's called being a friend.. you should try it.

Glad folks with the Red Cross and others don't think like you do.

My Grandfather also grew up in the depression. He said the women would give BJ's to completion just to get something warm in their belly.

Another value.

"No pay, no work"
No disrespect to you or your grandfather, but either he or you got it backwards.
"No work, no pay"
As in "if you expect to get paid for something, you have to work for it."
The other way around just makes you an a-hole.
In other words, you're kind of like Jack Black's character in Shallow Hal, when his doped up father's last words to him were to only date hot women. Something got lost in translation and you have messed up values as a result.

I feel sorry for you. Especially at this time of year, Mr. Grinch. Whenever I've done volunteer work I've come away with the feeling that I've benefitted as much as those I was helping.
Oh, and my grandparents lived through the depression but their motto was "we'll get through this if everyone helps out."

one day you will need someone to do something for you and i hope you have to pay through the nose for it.

I'm not sure if this or the Adele #BLM thread is the bigger troll.

You're going to be a lonely old man with that mindset.

Is this the part where you tell us about all the times you've stood firm on this value?

I don't do volunteer work because it is usually inefficient and stupid. Let the people involved closely with the matter do the work and I give money. Or even better let the homeless work the soup kitchens, etc. Let them get involved and learn a trade. I will provide the money.
Most people go do volunteer work just to put it on Facebook. Let the professionals handle it and I just give them money when they are a great charity.

I agree with this. It's either that, or for college applications. Most people who do volunteer work are self centered.

If its a close friend who needs help & I know they would do the same for me if I needed them... No question.

People who have jobs using their days off to volunteer to cook and serve people who have no job. Why aren't the people who are being served, involved in cooking and serving the food as well as the clean-up? I've seen people eat and go, not offering to help in any manner. So there's that...
