I'm from LA and I still can't figure out why anyone would pay a state income tax to live in LA

Florida is the only other state we’ve considered moving too but I love having my family close. My mother gets to hold my daughter every week.

I want to prioritize family so that my daughter does the same one day with me.

Good post OP. Folks here get raging mad, pissed off when someone post about loving La. They’ll even make long drawn out post about why they think that person is wrong. We know you are right, I love my state also baw.

I'm about to leave my home (less expensive per SF than in LA), pass the excellent public schools on the way to the well-maintained toll loop that also passes thriving small businesses and head to my job that doesn't take out state income tax

Also, urban south brewing is setting up less than 10 minutes from my office

I'm good
I’m happy for you brother.

I’m glad you found somewhere that’s right for you.

I do most of those and don't live there any more.

One of my favorite parts about being in South Louisiana is that I’m close enough to take a 3 hour drive to Destin instead of pretending like Galveston is a beach.

I agree here. Galveston is for trash. We just fly into new Orleans and spend a weekend then drive over to the condo in Perdido. Can't beat the accessibility from New Orleans.

Pretty sure people here get raging mad when someone posts about hating LA, too. And then they'll even make long drawn out posts about why they think that person is wrong.

Pendulum swings both ways on this one.

I hear you man. Louisiana is an extremely unique place. It’s not for everyone and that’s cool. But I love it for all the reasons that I listed. I also love the outdoors and Louisiana is truly a sportsman’s paradise. I think if I moved out of the state that I would see the glaring decencies of Louisiana much more clearly but right now I’m blinded by happiness.

My family and I are very happy with our lives and there’s nothing more important to me in this world. I don’t want to try to fix something that isn’t broken.

Where you moving to bud?

It is funny when people come on this Louisiana message board and want to list all the reasons they moved from Louisiana. NOBODY cares that you left!!! Nobody cares about where you live. If your current out of state is so wonderful then why do you waste all your time posting on a Louisiana message board

Why do you always melt so hard over this?

I love Louisiana. But im scared to leave because I think I'll realize how bad it really is.

I served in the US Air Force for 30 years, traveling the country and world. I moved home to Louisiana (Baton Rouge) after retiring in 2013. I wasn't afraid to leave nor afraid to come back. Is it bad, yes but so are most other places no matter how pretty a picture some people paint. It's not as bad as most people on the OT make it out to be. Any place is what you make it and I plan on making it a great place for me instead of focusing on the negative all the time. No one is forcing anyone to live here....just leave if it's that miserable.

Think about returning to baton Rouge after 30 years. How disappointing must that have been?

Because this is where my family lives. Why do people find that hard to believe?

It's not hard to believe. It's just depressing.

Enjoyed the post. I get that some people hate or hated it here and left. What I don't get is why so many posters insist that everyone else hate it too.

Louisiana isn't a bad place, but it is very limited. Some people prefer that, others don't. I didn't, and am very glad I am where I'm at now for a grocery list of reasons.

It's fun to go back and visit for a week out of the year, but that's about it for me

It really wasn't that disappointing at all. Why do you all find it surprising that there are some people who actually like living here for whatever reason? It's their choice, not yours.

Baton rouge has changed so much since the late 80s, and not for the better
