Why I call Louisiana home

This is gonna be a long arse post so fair warning. The latest crybaby thread about Louisiana kinda got be thinking and I’m in a good mood so here’s my thoughts on it. Louisiana Politics is broken and I’m aware. I don’t know if it will ever be fixed but I think that our politicians hold back our state in several ways. Outside of that I can’t think of a place I would rather live. Maybe it’s just me but I kinda break down my life into seasons
Spring
Crawfish season baby. Best food in the world.
Baseball at the box is a family tradition.
My personal favorite is bass fishing at some of our beautiful lakes like
Toledo Bend the number 1 bass fishing lake in the country. Some of my buddies and I have a yearly spring trip where we stay at Cypress Bend and play golf and fish.
Caddo Lake In Northwest Louisiana has been called one of the most beautiful lakes in the country and it’s produced monster fish. Incredible duck hunting too.
Jazz Fesf is always a blast. The cochon delait poboy is incredible and I’ve seen Tom Petty, Jimmy Buffet, Chris Stapleton, Aerosmith and Aretha Franklin there all in the past 3 years.
Oh yeah and Mardi Gras, not sure if anyone likes that.
Texag7 and CajunBama love going to the end of Bourbon Street.
My wife and I just recently re-upped our membership to the Audubon zoo which is incredible. The new lion exibit opens this week.
The stately oaks outside of the Sealion exibit is gorgeous
We also just took a stroll through city park this past weekend before the game, we had Russell’s Marina for breakfast in Bucktown- anyone traveling to New Orleans I highly recommend. I had the shrimp omelet. Big Als Bloody Mary there is legendary.
Same guys that I go to Toledo Bend with did a conservation goose hunt with me last year outside of Bastrop which is a blast. Pun intended. There birds are so plentiful and overpopulated that the LDWF allows you to take your plug out of your shotgun and there is no limits.
One of my subcontractors got me a VIP tickets to the Zurich last Thursday. Rain kind screwed up most of the day but can’t beat Dragos Oyster and Mr. B’s steak.
Also there’s Great Turkey hunting in our state. I hunt on a friends land in Bienville parish, very close to where Bonny and Clyde were ambushed, and I was able to harvest a mature Tom this past year.
I can keep going but let’s go to summer
Summer is probably my least favorite time of the year. Sports are all but Sac-a-lait can be found in piles.
My personal favorite fishing spot in the summer for White Perch is Poverty Point in Northeast Louisiana.
Poverty point is actually an incredible ancient Native American mound site that experts believe date back 3400 years. There are some incredible artifacts at an extremely kid friendly museum on site.
Bowfishing for redfish in Lafitte, Alligator Gar on Toledo Bend and Frog Gigging in the Atchafalya Basin is a must
The Red Dress run is a hell of a time
The Oyster festival is one my favorites of the year
]
Our zoo memebership came with an Aquarium membership. And it’s a great way to spend a hot summer day with the family. We like to walk over to Cafe du monde afterwards for beignets.
One of my favorite parts about being in South Louisiana is that I’m close enough to take a 3 hour drive to Destin instead of pretending like Galveston is a beach.
We’re going in August this year.

Fall is by far my favorite time of the year.
First and foremost isn’t time for the Tigers to take the field which means tsilgating and football. The autumn days with the smell of Jambalaya, Gumbo, BBQ and Etoufee in the air.
Also my Who Dats are primed for another Super Bowl run this year
Not to mention that we’ve witnessed history and have been blessed to watch one of the greatest ever play for our state Iver the past decade. A truly great man.
No matter what you have to make time for the Trout down in Delacroix in the fall. Best time of the year to get your 25. (Full disclosure- I don’t know if these pics are in Louisiana but it’s the best looking pics with trout I’ve seen.)
Gotta make time for those deer and ducks in the fall stud below was killed last year in St. Francisville
Fall is the best time of the year to try to catch a Tuna in the gulf if I’m not mistaken. I’m by no means and expert off shore angler but it’s a hell of a time and Louisiana has world class fishing.
It’s hard to beat a good crab and shrimp boil in the fall
Winters are about 3 weeks long here and it’s a bit repetitive with the spring and fall events.
My point is- Louisiana has an incredible amount to offer, there’s an extremely rich culture and history in our state and there are plenty of opportunity’s to see and do great things here.
I get while people want to move and that’s fine but to call Louisiana shitty because of Baton Rouge traffic is illogical.

ETA: Why are some many of the non-residents in this thread pissed off because we enjoy our state?
Why do you even give a shite? It’s funny, dudes like that are miserable in Louisiana then move to Houston and are miserable there and talk about how they hate Louisiana.
It’s like a creepy ex girlfriend that text you to say she’s not thinking about you.

Can I just call it home because that’s where I’m from?

Part of me says frick yeah (Louisiana Native), and the other part of me says get out there and travel the world.

I don’t see where you posted the crime map

Every state has its pros and cons; lived in South LA for 25 years but left and will never reside there again. Screw sweating for 7 months a year just walking around and not a fatty.

Thanks for sharing this post. The Louisiana tourism board (if there is one) should hire you as a consultant.

That’s exactly what happens

Some people like living here and some don’t.
This seems like a shocking concept to most on this board.

Well done, sir. So happy I moved back. No place like home.

Yep.
I'm about to graduate college in a few weeks and I chose to continue to live in LA. A lot if my friends moved out though. Guess I'll be hearing the difference in lifestyle over the next few months.
