For my 2 kids you're about $1600 a month shy. Thank goodness one is about to go to college so I can finally get a break.

Christ. It’s absolutely ridiculous that ppl have to pay that in Louisiana to go to a good school.

That’s about 20k a year from ages 4-18

20k x 14 years means people that care about their kids’ education are paying an extra 280k over their school career. That’s fricking ridiculous.

You can move to the burbs which is exactly what people in Atlanta, Dallas and Houston that have kids do too.

I've lived all over the country. TX and LA are far from the greatest places to live.

Unfortunately not true. Even people living in 70005 Area Code - the wealthier part of Jefferson Parish (nola burbs)- don't have public school as an option unless you can get them in a magnet. From what I understand, St Tammany, St Bernard, and Plaquemines have decent public schools, but then you have to live in those places. No hatred. Just wouldnt want to. Metairie is pretty much the only suburb equivalent of the ATL, DAL, HOU burbs.

Then you end up paying almost the same amounts in property taxes that you would spend for private school.

Imagine how good Louisiana would be if it didn’t have demographics

My point was simply that most people that I know in BR and Nola that send their kids to private school live in the city and having shitty inner city schools isn't unique to Louisiana. There are a number of decent public schools in the burbs if you don't mind living there.

To be fair, it’s also not a prerequisite for living in a city. I’m not opposing private or parochial schools, hell I'm a product of them, but living in a city doesn’t mean the public schools suck.

Not that I think that was your assertion, fallguy. Just continuing the conversation.

No, I wasn't saying that all inner city schools are bad but certainly a lot of them are. I would think even the majority of them in the South.

My niece went to private school in Houston and Dallas because the public schools sucked where they lived.

I always read about the great public schools in Houston but they are talking about Katy, Woodlands, etc. All of my friends that actually live in Houston send kids to private schools.

Exactly. Saying Texas suburban schools are better than Louisiana suburban schools is a fair statement and I'm sure it's accurate.

I just think it's inaccurate to say that you have to pay for private school in Louisiana. There are plenty of burbs that have decent public options.
