Why is Xavier a waste of space and money??? It’s a Catholic school and has one of the few pharmacy programs in Louisiana..,

They're private schools. I don't understand your reasoning.

Neither do I--I rarely think about them, tbh.

Get rid of the schools.

But for the love of God please keep the bands and directors around. They play some damn good music.

Mississippi's frittering away of it's own meager educational resources on it's multiple public HBCUs is indefensible.

While reorganizing, the State should amalgamate Ole Miss, MSU & USM into one institution.

There's a stupid amount of redundancy in maintaining three major public institutions by a State at the bottom of most all measurable statistics.

It's just another way to stay at or near the bottom of all States, go Mississippi!

Yeah, that'd go well.

That being said, the HBCU system has been a pillar of educational attainment for minorities and, in modern times, people of various ethnicities.

Yet you chose to get a BS in Physics from La Tech. Then you got your Masters from an HBCU, where they horribly misguided you in allowing you to pursue EE, with no background in engineering. They failed you.

Had you gotten your masters at La Tech, your job search would not have been the abortion it turned into.

You are a likeable guy but to come in and preach that cherry picking history for demolition is good is just wrong. These HBCU's do a disservice to their grads, providing them a substandard education. Hiring managers know what they are getting.

People argue that the confederate statues separate people by race and need or needed to go.

HBCU do the same thing so they need to go!

I don't usually get involved in these types of debates, but I just wanted to drop in to say that the statues weren't costing more taxpayer funding like the schools are. In fact, removing the statues cost the tax payers money. So I don't really get the comparison here.

I really don’t mind the existence of HBCUs. White people are allowed to enroll. But the HBCU must be held to the same standard as any other public college. Which probably isn’t that high anyway.

for frick's sake this is like the 5th post trying to make this point, which he preempts in the OP

What's your point? The point is valid. Bring down a "symbol of racism" but leave open a university that was only created because of racism?

They don't want anything that reminds them of the Civil War or racists, but have no problem with the HBCUs.

I mean for frick's sake, Grambling was named after a WHITE GUY!!

ETA: I have no problem with HBCUs, but it's idiotic to want a statue to come down because of what it represents to you, but turn a blind eye to the schools and traditions they hold high, which were created out of the same racism that those statues represent.

My OP was intended to RELATE to you. I was saying that I can endure the fact that you want to keep your statues as long as HBCU exists academically in some form.

And maybe privatization would be the best approach to take. But that could be multiple small universities that have low graduation rates

Wasn't the entire reason for tearing down the statues and renaming the buildings and roads specifically to deny and erase and mention of Southern historical value?
