I know this may sound silly, but hear me out.

Many people in the Southern US were upset about the Civil War statue take downs. For a variety of reasons, people had strong feelings about their heritage and perception on modern day race relations.

That being said, the HBCU system has been a pillar of educational attainment for minorities and, in modern times, people of various ethnicities.

After slavery and throughout Jim Crow, these places are a reminder of our Southern heritage. Myself and many others are just as proud of them as many are of the Confederacy.

I understand that most HBCU are not at the level of prestige as the premier State universities or IVY leaguers. But that does not dismiss the fact that some very great professionals have spawned from these institutions.

There will always be those who sully their advantages for leisure, misbahavior, and sloth.
But they must not be the focal point of our attention. That belongs to those who aspire for a better future.

Hmmmm, keeping things around because of "Southern History" huh? What a wild thought.

If they are part of southern history, then destroy them all. Haven't we learned by now that all parts of southern history are racist and must be taken down?

I never read or participate in your threads. Don't think I'm gonna start now either.

I don't usually get involved in these types of debates, but I just wanted to drop in to say that the statues weren't costing more taxpayer funding like the schools are. In fact, removing the statues cost the tax payers money. So I don't really get the comparison here.

If they are linked to the Civil War in any way they must be brought down or funded privately.

but he's not all "burn in hell white captors!" like strongsafety and at least tries to generate fresh content

So are statues and street names but your ilk seem bound and determined to destroy those too.

ETA: there still isn’t any reason for dismal failures like SUNO to exist though.

If an HBCU can perform to a reasonable level, let it remain.

If not, people can privately fund it

Southern University, Southern Law, Grambling, Dillard, and Xavier are all wastes of space and more importantly money for the state of Louisiana. It's been long time to shut down schools that have put out garbage grades and graduates.

The universities exist because segregation existed

As did separate bathrooms, laundromats, grade schools-high schools, etc...

All of those other things were shut down in the name of progress, why not shut down failing HBCUs?

Oh wait, it's because of all the minorities that are in charge of the HBCUs that are making money off of them and even though the education is terrible and their graduation rates deplorable, they recognize that shutting down the institutions would represent the end of their cash cows

That's not a good reason to keep sub par facilities around

So we should just ignore subpar graduation rates?

Seperate bur equal.

It amazes me how many black people are pro-segregation.

Let me level with you.

If I had my way, we would only have Xavier and SUBR.

Every Southern state has at least 2 HBCU. It won't hurt LA to have 1 public and 1 private option.
