Why was this a thing? Who convinced men they had to wear a hat back then? Why and when did it stop? And why do men wear ballcaps everywhere now?

Trash society with no self-respect

People used to dress nicely to fly. Most working class people owned a suit or two. No one would think of going to church not wearing a suit.

One of the few remaining bastions of fine attire is the black church, where most men wear suits.

Because women are powerful now. Get over it you misogynist.

Yes I'm aware this is technically not a top hat.

They may be foam green or turquoise. But they are suits.

Honestly tho thank god we don’t dress like we didn’t in the 20s. All I can think about back then is how expensive it must’ve been to even dress kinda casually. And the hassle of keeping all of that stuff clean and putting it on in the morning? No thanks.

Prices were relatively decent because there was a broader market (%wise) for nice clothes.

Was in a day wedding where we thought about wearing gray ones with our grey long coats, striped pants and striped ascots. Would have been cool, but we didn't want to be standing in the church holding them for the 55 minute Catholic wedding.
