Why does Louisiana have such an underdeveloped economy?

I’ve never understood it. The only economy there is oil. There is zero tech industry, zero medical industry, little to no finance industry, while the rest to scrape by are fishing and hunting. I mean I get that there’s a large black population that disproportionately commits most of the crimes which deters companies from wanting to locate there, but does it have something to do with the fact that only a tiny portion of Louisiana population actually have college degrees? The ones that DO have degrees get the frick out as soon as possible, and rightfully so. But I mean how do you manage to rank dead last in everything: healthcare, quality of living, crime, etc? You’d think with the huge oil industry LA has, it would be able to offset that to some degree. But it still doesn’t. Why?

Have you ever politicked with the criminals like the Longs, Alarios, Skrimettas, etc.? It must have been pretty difficult as a business owner.

Fat. Poor. Stupid. Corrupt.

Have you seen who we elect? We got sloth in the governor's office curtailing basic enumerated rights. And if he were able to run again I'd put him being re-elected at a better than 50% chance.
We have complete idiots running the two biggest cities in the state. The legislature is full of republicans who are doing their best to kiss JBE's arse. We can't even get constitutional carry passed with a majority in each chamber and enough people to override a veto.
We truly elect the worse to run this state.

If corrupt politicians and lazy high ranking officials and business partners were college football teams, we would be 2019 tigers offense combined with last years Georgia defense. Ray Guy and Morten Andersen would be our special teamers, coached by Vince Lombardi.

Yeah but the football team is usually pretty good.

BR has two of the best medical centers in the country. OLOL and BR General are pretty much top notch.

Bruh, don't comment on things you are uneducated about....you sound foolish. there is a lot of medical and tech. And it's not just oil, it's also chemicals and petrochemicals.

He's referring to economy. We have medical/healthcare jobs here. Sure, we don't have an MD Anderson, Mayo Clinic, etc... But we do have good healthcare jobs here.
