Just saying they are from New Orleans is easier than explaining where Kenner is. They just become accustomed to forcing into conversations

They're probably proud that they've survived so long

NOLA sucks for more than a few days. Terrible place to live. The entire city is filled with crime, nowhere is safe. Traffic is awful and the potholes will eat you alive

Just don't go out to certain areas at night, and don't drive, just walk.

Pre Katrina I used to walk home through the bywater, even over franklin ave at times at 3-4am drunk. I was never bothered.

Was in gothic metal bands so I did look like a long haired, skinny tattood walking corpse though.

Eta

Plus I had my gun on me too just in case.

Most of the New Orleans-philes who can't shut up about it aren't even from there. Uptown snobs don't socialize with anyone outside of their incestuous circle. Almost the entire native white population (and increasingly a big chunk of the black population) left for better parishes decades ago.

That said, it is fun to visit at the right times for limited time.
Small doses.

I keep hoping nudes will pop up for that girl going crazy at the lsu basketball game. She seems like a ride that's worth the price of admission.

Look at where you are from as a parallel to your mother. If you feel like she loved you, treated you good and did a good job raising you, you are proud of her.

Never mind that everyone else sees her as a ditchpig, weighing 310 lbs., covered in warts, and constantly emitting various foul odors.

To you, her gumbo is the best.

Maybe better relatively but certainly not "good".

New Orleans is the one of the few worthwhile places in the South.

Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, Jekyll Island, Saint Simons Island, Cumberland Island, Nashville, Ashville, Hilton Head, the Outer Banks, Blue Ridge, Chattanooga, Greenville.

Yeah, tons of places worth visiting. That's just off of the top of my head.

I am guessing you have never met anyone from Texas if you think NOLA pride is an issue. Personally, I do not think there is anything wrong with being proud of where you are from ( that's coming from trailer park trash here!).
