Why does everyone from New Orleans have to tell you they’re from New Orleans?

My mother in law is from there, I have a coworker from there, and every other aquantance I’ve had that’s from there have ALWAYS found a way to work into conversation the fact that they’re from NOLA. It’s like they’re trying to convince themselves that it’s a special place. I don’t go around telling people where I’m from because I know they don’t give a shite. NOLA folks should do the same.

One time, I got a offer from my company to relocate to NO...when I turned the offer down, they were just speechless at the thought that anyone would not jump at the chance to move there!

Out here, when people ask where Im from I always say “from around New Orleans.” Usually a good conversation starter either about food, Katrina, or murder

Not sure why they have to tell you. I can usually tell right away. People with aids don't walk around yelling they have aids cuz that would be weird.

Isn't New Orleans in the swamp? Do you guys have to worry about alligators? Can you cook gumbo?
