Best Buy

Hard to believe they’re still in business. Wasn’t too long ago that everyone predicted them to be obsolete due to Amazon and other online competition.

Well it’s not like they didn’t have troubles. Commercial real estate leases on properties those sizes are a fortune especially compared to daily sales needed just to break even from real estate and utilities

Well, that’s true but they’re still kicking. Something must be going right. It was doom and gloom for them in late 2000’s

I'm sure they were smart and negotiated leases as in person shopping declined. Yes, those buildings were big and expensive at peak pre-internet commerce, but they would be hard to rent in the post-internet commerce world.

That’s how I feel about restaurants charging me a fee for using a debit card or credit card.

Best Buy will try to sell you $25 protection on a $20 cable. There is a reason they push it so hard and that's because it's there #1 money maker.

Best Buy is the only place I've ever purchased a protection plan, and the one time I did it it worked out in my favor. Bought a refurbished Samsung TV for 500 when it retailed for 900. Added a one year protection plan for 50 bucks. Brought the TV back two days later when it wasn't working right and they gave me a brand new one. Ironically I saved $350.

I’m fairly certain that within TWO days of buying a TV at Best Buy, you could have returned your defective TV and would have been issued a refund. An extended warranty, based upon what you wrote, wasn’t necessary in this situation.

Best Buy sent the Geeks out on a 55" TV that after the 2nd time replacing all 3 circuit boards inside discovered it was the actual screen that was overheating and burning the board it was connected to. They then sent a replacement TV next size larger but at least 2 models newer with added features. Mom only uses a TV to watch Fox and local news for the weather so bare bones is she needs.

TLDR: Got significantly upgraded by BestBuy for the $50 TV coverage, free delivery/setup/disposal too

ETA: decade ago or more ago Dell sent a guy out to my place in the middle of nowhere to replace mobo that went out 1 month before coverage expired. He drove 4 hours for that.

It depends on the product and how long you expect it to perform. Of course, the cost is also important. Small ticket item protection plans are a waste.

Those parts are relatively cheap, and with YouTube most folks can change bearings and spindles even if not mechanically inclined

These plans have been offered ever since I can remember. I know when I bought my first vehicle in the 70’s it was available. They are all scams. For every one positive reason to get one there are thousands of people who wasted their money on these
