re: Why do we teach kids to share?

As a child you're beginning to learn about relationships, but you are limited in the friends you can choose. Sharing is fundamental in a relationship, whether physically sharing an object or emotionally sharing a feeling. Children are taught sharing in order to build healthy relationships, instead of being self centered little pricks as they grow up. Besides, in a family, the ability to share makes for a much healthier family unit.

Sharing requires you to go against your selfish tendencies and is the earliest form of compromise a child learns. Compromise is an important life skill.

IRL what and when do you "share"?
I share food and drinks frequently with friends and family. I share the opportunity to speak and share ideas and share the workload with coworkers. The situations go on. Learning not to be a self centered a-hole is a skill that is inherently mature and adult. I feel sorry for you if you have never learned this.

I almost gave an honest and thought out response. Then I saw it was you.

Just a good rule in general. I'm sure you share every day with out realizing it. Like setting someone barrow a pen, small stuff like that.
Just another step in keeping kids from growing up to be selfish little pricks.

So they don't turn out to be selfish a holes when they get older.

Right on.
OP needs to recognize that lasting relationships that matter - from college grades to business relationships to marriages - all work on compromise, selflessness and coordination.
and before posters start thrashing the idea of sharing in business relationships, review the most successful businesses in history.

Is it really that hard? We want children to learn to NOT be selfish at heart. Selfless people are certainly a preferable human.

Sharing = Socialism

Yup they are the easiest to dupe.

Exactly. Instead of teaching our kids Marxism, why not educate the offending thief about personal property ownership rights.
"Johnny, why don't you share your brand new toy with this kid who might break it."
"Sammy, that is Johnny's toy. He doesn't want you to break it. You promise you won't break it? Okay. Can you put down a deposit?"

Because I don't want my kids to be selfish little freaks. Next question.

This thread is the epitome of the downfall of our moral fabric.

How can anyone question sharing? How do you even establish bonds and relationships with such a selfish and egostistic point of view?

Taking by force is not sharing.
Also, you shared your stupid opinion with us and we didn't even ask for it.
