Just put a scale by the door. $1 a pound surcharge to fly plus a base amount.

Right, most airlines can't afford much more bad publicity.
Does SWA still have their people of size policy where you need to buy two seats and if the plane doesn't sell out they refund you for the extra seat?

They really need to offer seating with only 2 seats instead of 3 with larger seats that accommodate larger people. Sure charge a little extra but I bet many large folk would pay it.
Basically get a “first class seat without the first class service”.
Though I’m not fat I’m tall 6’6 with a large muscular build and a few extra pounds I need to lose and normal seats are uncomfortable to me. Not enough leg room and while I don’t impede on the other persons space it is a bit tight for me. I’d gladly pay a little more for roomier seating on short flights. If it’s a long flight (2+ hours) I usually try to get first class anyways

I've flown and got stuck between 2 big boys. It really does cramp your movement. When I fly with my family vs seated next to big people it's a noticeable difference. Not trying to be mean to the big peeps but maybe you need to fly in first class so you have room for yourself as well bc I see that you can't move either. I have a brother that can ONLY fly first class bc of this. He knows it. So he mostly drives instead of flying when he wants to travel.

The worst part is seeing someone ask for the seat belt extender. Some planes I can almost wrap the belt around twice and to think people have to get an extension boggles my mind.

shite, I’m a broad shouldered guy (yeah, I’ve put on a little weight, but I’m not morbidly obese or anything) and I feel bad sitting next to someone in coach. I try to keep my shoulders and arms in but it ends up leaving my muscles in knots. If it’s a flight over 3 hours then I’m not flying coach. frick that shite.

According to their website, it's even better than that. Southwest will now refund the second seat even if the flight is full. This must be because otherwise there'd be meltdowns on the plane with people refusing to fly while squashed next to morbidly obese people. But AA/DL/UA will never be this generous:

Or when they bring along their own personal one that looks like it was used to rope cattle and insist on using it even when they were offered the company owned belt. And that opens up whole new can of worms.

I'm a big boy 6'3" 260, (I fit in one seat). I agree I cringe when I see a 300+ pound fatty walking my way. When they get a certain size they smell and I find that it's rude of them not to care about other people's space.
