I’m listening to NPR and they’re talking about lethal injection and how it can be cruel and unusual punishment because of things that can happen to them.

Why don’t we just put a gun to their head? Instant death. No pain. Super cheap and no worry about acquiring the drugs. If I were on death row I’d absolutely rather be in front of the firing squad.

What’s sad is we don’t even let police do their job and shoot criminals anymore

It’s why rates of stress and ptsd are so high in the police force

Firing squad does not equal gun to your head. Also, numerous people have been shot point blank and survived (my own uncle shot himself in the temple and survived and died on the table a few hours later). What do you propose is a full proof way to insure instant death that wasn't excessive in the application of force? I suppose we could do a North Korea and put them in front of artillery pieces (as alleged).

ETA - Believe we should have the most efficient process we can and am a proponent of capital punishment when appropriate.

Nitrogen asphyxiation would be the a cheap and most painless method out there.

Stop with the triple cocktail.

When found guilty and sentenced to death, inmates should be publicly hung within 72 hours of their sentence

Why does it have to be instant? Nitrogen would be painless. Criminal would pass out due to lack of oxygen. Painless.

The body recognizes buildup of CO2 in the blood as an alarm that it needs air, not lack of O2.

I just can't understand how someone drafts this subject line and then says, "Yeah. That exactly conveys the thought I am intending to transmit!"

Super cheap

This is why. Somebody has to get that government contract for $10,000 a dose.

Follow the money.

Guillotine always seemed like a quick, painless way to go. I vote we bring that back.

I've never understood this either. There is a tool for killing people quickly and efficiently. It is not perfect; no tool is. That is no excuse to go looking for gimmicks involving electricity, weird chemicals, etc.

It really disgusts me.

we have found that roughly 7 or percent of people we have executed in this country were actually innocent of their crimes. And that only reflects what we know, as there are probably more in actualy. And not all of these were done in some backwater hick georgia county in the 20s. The state of Texas executed a man in the 21st century and A LOT of stuff has come out to suggest that he was actually innocent. If anything, what we do now isn't good enough

Your title is confusing but what I don't understand is when a prison isn't able to get whatever they used for lethal injections.

Just give them a bunch of 99% heroin. Let them have a good feeling seconds before they black out.

There are records of the heads detached from the body and the eyes still able to track a stimulus for almost 30 seconds. im not sure if that means the brain receptors can process the pain or not.

I agree if you get unfairly executed for killing your whore wife and Jody you were innocent but most of the people on death row have other crimes on their record so they’re definitely guilty

Doesn't have to be - OP suggested shooting is instant which it isn't in all cases is all I was saying. Personally, I don't care if it takes 6 hours as long as that isn't undue suffering in that process and it isn't unduly expensive.
