I explained that common usage changes definitions before dictionaries adopt them. I used “literally” as an example. The word “literally” is now more commonly used to mean “not literally” than it is used correctly. See here:

This is what happened with “disease”.

You tried to make the point earlier that alcoholism has symptoms that are not different from the definition of disease. I carefully explained to you the difference between agency and non-agency in acquiring those symptoms. Then I gave you the example of suicide by gunshot, and how it also met your criteria. You never addressed that. Do you think a failed suicide attempt, leaving the victim disabled, is a disease? No? But you think repeatedly dosing oneself with poison causing depression as well as physical ailments is a disease? Fine, but it wasn’t always that way.

You quibble with my choice of 50 years, and maybe you are right. But in making your case you simply moved the date to 70 years ago without realizing that in doing so you admitted my point that the definition changed.
