I got pulled over for speeding by a motorcycle cop one time. We argued for like 20 minutes about whether I was speeding or not. He couldn't prove it and I was certain I didn't. Then he wrote me for a seatbelt violation while I was still wearing my seatbelt. I finally gave up and just mailed in a check for $25. Pretty lame.

What is the most common reason those die in a crash? I don't know the answer, but if i had to guess, head trauma would be at or near the top. So why don't we all wear some kind of protective head gear when we drive? why isn't that a law?

In South Carolina we have a seat belt law but if you're over 21 you can ride a motorcycle without a helmet.

In BRa if you shoot at someone and miss, that will be pled down to a no seatbelt ticket.

There are a lot of things government shouldn't do. Enforcing seatbelts isn't one I have a problem with. Like someone explained, someone not wearing a seatbelt could have an impact on other people.. if they are hit. In some situations having a seatbelt on could keep the driver stabilized enough to regain control of their vehicle.
I know there are instances when having a seatbelt on resulted in the driver's death, so if you like betting on huge underdogs then don't wear one.
And the government really isn't forcing you to wear it, they are just saying "if you are caught not wearing one you will be penalized. If not wearing it is worth more than paying the penalties then go right ahead".. They don't kill people for not wearing them.
