They can also show and sell the initial supply the same day.

Eta: my kids just started cub scouts and while I agree that it sucks, my kids will actually do the selling themselves to learn a lesson about working for what you want in life. 20% of what they sell goes into an account to cover their expenses, so they are effectively paying their own way.

The popcorn is really good, I like the 100 calorie light packs and the microwave kettle corn. It is expensive as hell, but it ain't meant to be a bargain, it is a fundraiser

4H sells beef sticks and they are very good. Boy Scouts should do the same.

I got hit up to buy some popcorn a week or so ago. I just donated $10 and moved on.

Also, why don't they sell something pertinent to scouting like jerky.

If they sold Jerky and something like Beaver nuggets instead of popcorn I would buy it, I'm not a fan of the popcorn, I still have some I bought last year.

boy scouts used to be a really shitty organization only concerned with paying their main office

This sounds like you were a member of terrible council.

I've noticed that experience with scouting is quite broad. However, 9/10 times I feel that it really has to do with the amount of effort you put into it. That being said, I think some troops have better leaders or social dynamics with the boys. This does make a difference to how well a lot of guys start out.

Active troops tend to have better retention. My leader was old school and elderly, and thus we struggled at times with new members. However, I worked camp staff, went to Philmont, and the National Jamboree. Also, I had way more fun through OA than I ever did with my troop.

My brother on the other hand struggled to make his Eagle Scout. I think it ultimately depends on the individual.

Our pack sells outside lowes. Make a killing......200-300 an hour.

And for the most part the popcorn is good.

Last year we did $17,000 in sales across 60 or so kids.

Why don't they just sell a "Hot Boy Scout Mom" calendar? They would make more money, they would compete better with Girl Scout cookies, and they would help the young lads into adulthood.

Because the girl scouts is nothing but a scheme revolving around making money off their cookies. Not once, have I heard anything about what the girl scouts do if it didnt involve cookies.

The boy scouts sell mediocre popcorn because they're a legitimate group. They give out scholarships and own property all over the place.

The schools have all of the other crappy stuff to sale.
Why do people use sale instead of sell here? Maybe my k-12 teachers had it wrong.

I think I'll hit up a garage sell today

Why can't parents just pay for their kids' activities?

It can't be that damn expensive for whatever it is that boy scouts do.
