Why do the boy scouts sell popcorn?

First off, the popcorn sucks and I always feel bad saying no thanks but I can't take buying it and throwing it away. How did Girl Scouts get cookies and they get popcorn?
Also, why don't they sell something pertinent to scouting like jerky. It would make so much more sense and probably increase their volumes.

Young boys selling a little jerky is illegal.

i'd imagine it has something to do with a high up in boy scouts owning a popcorn company? just spit-balling here

I don't know, I was kicked out for eating a brownie before I learned anything.

Ther's got to be a punchline here somewhere.

Because if little boys went around knocking on strangers' doors asking if they"Want to pay for some Jerky?" people might get the wrong idea.

Sold out of all of our scout popcorn in 1 hour this year. Eazy peazy.
The schools have all of the other crappy stuff to sale. Scouts need popcorn.

I would buy some beef jerky, but no thanks to that shitty popcorn.

That popcorn is a ripoff. Fatties want the 5 gal bucket they used to sell!

It's a fundraising thing.
Why did you feel the need to start a thread about it??

Wrong. The popcorn is crack-covered or something. The stuff we got this year was gone in short order.

I guess I mistyped. I do not like popcorn in general so if you like popcorn the scout stuff may be fine.

I sold like the third or fourth most popcorn in the Baton Rouge area when I was younger. I won a Kareem Abdul Jabar autographed basketball.

I like popcorn but those things get stuck in my teeth and I regret eating it every time.

They'll be selling fudge before you know it

Q: Why do the boy scouts sell popcorn?
A: Because they're Pipsqueaks

Trying to gauge interest for starting a movement to change it. I think beef jerky would rival the Girl Scout cookies.

boy scouts used to be a really shitty organization only concerned with paying their main office. My dad was a boy scout troop leader 25 years ago. About 7 or 8 local businesses got together and donated several hundred bucks for tents for the local troop and some other camping supplies. They gave it to the local boy scout office about 15 miles away and my dad's troop never saw a dime of it despite the group explicitly telling them what it was for.

How do you "sell out" at one house? The Scouts take orders at the door, get the cash or check, and have the popcorn delivered to the pack in a shipment that takes over six weeks. The Scouts then go and deliver to whoever they sold to many weeks back.
