Why do so many refer to their SO as "the wife"???

It’s manly to treat the SO as a possession.

I usually say this is my "other half."

Always thought S O referred to someone you are not married to but involved in a romantic relationship.

Calling her " the " seems to deporonalize her or make it seem like an inanimate object.
