In my office, I know that a good bit of people who work from home choose to do so so that they can frick off and not work very much, also get things done around the house, run errands, etc.

IMO it's not a jealousy thing from where I stand, since I could also choose to work from home. For me it's a separation thing...I want my work life and home life separated, and during Covid it wasn't and I was miserable. Waking up and walking into my living room to work sucked arse. Ever since I switched offices in July of 2020, I've been 100% in-office and I love it. I also focus better at work and am distracted at home, whereas I realize that some people can focus just fine and be productive at home.

My experience is they aren't as timely with their deliverables and aren't as accessible with their communication. But that's a small sample size.

Nailed it. Working from home takes many forms. There can still be in person collaboration when necessary and I’m still not comfortable hiring someone that I can’t meet in person. So nope on India for me at this time.

There's serious data concerns about off shoring data, ignoring whether it's legal or not depending on the data and industry. Some of our clients specifically include in their T&C's that data can't be offshored

People working from home does not effect people working in an office

i'm going to have to disagree, but i was only dealing with this "during covid" which was almost two years ago now... so maybe i'd have a different opinion if i were still in that world.

Nobody is stopping anyone from going to the office.

I have a coworker who has to go into the office every day, and he lives 70 miles from the office, but I asked him years ago if that was going to be an issue if we hired him and he said no.
He complains to me daily now that he has to be at the office and most people don't, and some of his complaint is fair, he could work from home some, but his boss wants him at the office. It is what it is.

I just started working from home last week. I thought that I wouldn't like it, but its actually pretty nice. Being able to do stuff around the house when I'm not busy is probably the best perk. I feel like my work is more productive too. I guess I might get tired of it eventually, but I think that I'd much rather be at home than in an office.

I work from home. Make really good money…and I HATE it.

I need to be out in the world.

If you can work from home someone in India can do your job.

You may not believe this statement but many corporate leaders do believe it.

Not if you're client facing or in leadership of a department that is client facing.

The notion that working from home automatically equals “you don’t do shite and have a worthless job” is quite laughable to me.

I don't know what you do, but assuming the alternative for you would be having to be in an office...does being at a stuffy, boring office, with people that you are forced to be around really qualify as being "out in the world?"
