A line formed behind me at the gas station the other day because the chip on my card wouldn’t work. Then you have to play that game where you have to try the chip 3 times before it will let you swipe it.
I fricking hate chip cards. They never work.
Also, what I've learned about the magnetic stripes, is don't line them up in your wallet. If you have a couple cards, rotate them so the chips are on opposite sides. Less likely to demagnetize, that way.
Finally, a long time ago someone told me the eelskin wallets, while they look nice, tend to demagnetize cards in a hurry. I swapped to a different leather, and it seems to have worked.

The vast majority of the time when someone is taking forever to check out it’s because either A) they’re buying lottery tickets or B) they don’t have enough money to pay for their shite.
I think it’s mostly lottery tickets. It takes the cashier fking forever to ring them up (presumably because it has to process through LA Lottery’s system, at least for the big ones). The worst is when you get stuck behind people who are cashing out their $5 scratch-off win to then turn around and buy more scratch-offs..
I got stuck behind a lady a couple of weeks ago who was buying like $1.75 worth of shite and literally pulled a ziplock sandwich bag full of nickels and pennies out of her purse to pay. And of course she had to stop and re-count to figure out how much was left like 4 times.

What blows my mind are the people that get 50 bucks worth of snacks drinks food that costs like 15 bucks at any other store. I hate waiting for the cashier to get the plastic grocery bag out. I know then it'll be a minute or two.
If I do have to go in and see a line 3-4 people deep I just leave.

The 7-Elevens in my hood are basically mini casinos for the lottery. You have to wait 5 minutes for people to pick their scratch offs, scan tickets, etc.
We have two Quik Trips close now, who know how to properly run a convenience store.

Lottery tickets!!
A few months back I was at a 7-11 waiting to check out. Guy was talking to the cashier that he obviously knew. He told her so and so won $40,000 on a scratch off. She said “ oh lord, if I did that I could retire”. She meant it.
Yikes.
