Wasn't the original intention with Uber to be a carpool service, not necessarily to replace taxis?
Not sure about that. I know when it started, and even when we started using it in Atlanta, it was black car only.
More like Carey or something.

Wait Uber is trashy now?
Never change OT never change.

Because when I'd call a cab and maybe they'd show up in 10 minutes or maybe in an hour or maybe never. Plus cabbies are known for intentionally taking longer routes because there is no GPS to reference. And the credit card machine "works" about as often as the McDonald's shake machine.
I remember those days
Trying to go out somewhere with reservations was always a dice roll because the cabs just may not show up at all

New Orleans cabs outside of downtown were a disaster
“You goin’ on hold”
Good chance you can’t even get the call through let alone the cab

I remember like the year before Uber came to Houston a cabbie refusing to take me a half/three quarters of a mile bar to bar in Midtown in the pouring rain
“jus wait fa it ta end an walk”

Also what a game changer for college towns. I envy the kids now who have predictable rides from bar areas instead of having to play DUI roulette or worse rely on the cab companies

Last cab I remember taking in Lafayette featured an obese cabbie who stretched onto the passenger side yelling at us to make sure we weren’t bringing beer into his disgusting cab

Who calls it “RideShare” in 2019? Are you 60?

Also cabbies (at least in Houston) typically never had any idea where tf they were going. Nothing better than trying to navigate a recent immigrant to this country with questionable English around a city while blacked out

Wtf are you talking about

I had to do that last summer multiple times with Houston uber
Luckily I wasn’t blackout but was on the way to the bars

Cheaper than a DUI or paying for parking in Atlanta.
And much less riskier than being stuck on MARTA next to some queer with AIDS and a dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time.

Even for people out of college, it has made Baton Rouge a much better place to live. The cabs were effectively non-existent in Baton Rouge.
New Orleans taxis were thugs that were literally robbing their customers by charging $5 a head to go a few blocks or turning off the meter then taking the wrong route. God forbid you have a cab account

I definitely use Uber and Lyft
How do you end up choosing one over the other? Do you price them both then select the lowest amount?
Never understood that and it seems time consuming.

I thought he was talking about some kind of carpooling service. I figured most people used Uber and Lyft occasionally. I don't really go out to bars anymore but have used them some.

I only use Uber and I have a 4.91 Star rating...been using Uber for over 4 years..I have 400-500 or so trips..only had a few issues that were easily resolved and/or refunded.
I have a Lyft account but have never used it

I've used both in BR. Sometimes I'll open both apps to see which one is closest. There's not much difference imo.

From what I can tell, most drivers do both Uber and Lyft...IDGAF, just pick me up and take me where I want to go..and be cool...I like chit chatting with the drivers and get to know a little bit about them.....there are so many Uber drivers in NOLA that are from outside the city...they only come to town to drive and make some money.
I once had an older man in Ford pick up truck from Houma that drives into the city just to Uber for a night then rolls out. He usually picks up at the airport on his way in and makes a drop off at the airport on his way out of town.
