Status matters a lot. But I get your point, they should buy a good reliable used car. Instead of a new 40k truck but one a couple years old with 70k miles on it for 20k. You'll still get 5 good years out of it

Short answer - they are dumb, bad with money, and live somewhere cheap enough to make a $700-$800 vehicle note somewhat affordable

This is a such a tired subject. Yeah we get it people spend frivolously
Ultimately this is my opinion (but not necessarily how I live). Time is my most limited resource. We’re all gonna die and you don’t get to cash in your tickets when you’re on your death bed. If you have a bunch of money you saved all you’ll do is pass it on to your ancestors who could be total shitheads and waste it for all you know

When I was fresh out of college I bought a brand new Toyota Tundra, but I also bought a 32'travel trailer. I race dirt bikes, and throughout college my wife and I used a tent because that was what we could afford. Never again will I stay in a tent, F that!

My property value is skyrocketing. How are those vehicles appreciating? So yes I am smarter than them. Using a large portion of income on a vehicle is poor financial management and far too common

Apartments here cost the same as a mansion in a lot of places but you're missing the point. Unless you are wealthy to rich taking on large vehicle notes is fricking stupid

This describes every German car on the market today. Buying through a used car wholesaler recently, I was surprised that you can buy just about any 2 year old Mercedes for less than half its initial MSRP. From the E class to the $100,000 S class, this holds true, and these are manufacturer certified prime lease returns too. You can get an E350 with 15,000 miles for $28,000, that cost $65,000 new 2 years ago.
The process is so transparent and the value so great, I'll never buy a new car in a traditional setting again.
Nobody's getting laid in an $800 Isuzu I-Mark off Craigslist with no AC. Spend wisely, don't be cheap.

I am friends with the guy who owns the GMC dealership here. He said most folks dont care what it costs, they just want to know what the payment is.
Its crazy. I drive what a lot of people would call a beater, but I keep it maintained and it has been extremely reliable. Its paid for and until it isnt I will drive it.
I dont need a seat that vibrates when someone is next to me and I dont need a step rail that automatically comes out and has a light that comes on. I am a grown arse man and I can find my way into the cab without some gimicky shite that when it breaks will cost a grand to fix.
The other day I saw an ad for a Range Rover and when the doors locked the door handle disappeared into the body of the car (flush). When that breaks you wont be able to get into the door. Or if your battery goes dead how do you get into the cab to pop the hood to access the battery.
