I don’t hunt nor pull a boat and have a truck. Sadly, $40k is about what you pay for a reliable new truck these days. My Tacoma was $35k.

The same people buying these trucks are financing it for 7 years.

I have always been one to buy a new car and drive it till it dies. But thinking about retiring as young as possible has me wondering about buying a used car instead and investing the difference.

Anyone with thoughts on buying used? Formerly leased or bought outright cars etc? A mechanic checking it over with a title search and carfax record seem like standard precautions.

Because they have willfully bought into the notion from car markers of cars being a status symbol.

are you fresh out of college with an entry level job? If you can afford it go for it. If you're struggling because you wanted a nice vehicle don't go looking for sympathy. naw mean?

i'm comfortable with where i am in life.

but there's no part of me that is willing to buy something that depreciates so horribly.

just buy a late model used vehicle and let some other idiot take the initial depreciation hit.

what do you have to lose?

I'm comfortable with where I am in life too, but that's a damn fine automobile. I wouldn't be buying it as an investment.

Not stopping you. They just aren't worth the money to me. I spend 30 minutes at most in my car per day. Not paying $800 for that shite

i wasnt directly responding to you but the thread in general.

i totally get it if you're after a car as a 'toy' or something you really want.

that's different than say spending $75,000 on a new SUV when you can get the same model 2 years older for $35,000 that has an older version of bluetooth built-in

I am not. I get you though, kids are dumb with their money fresh out of college. My first real job out of school I don’t think creditors would allow me to finance a $20k vehicle much less a $40k truck. Lol.

I've got a coworker with a 450k house, an 85k pleasure boat and a 70k truck. His kids are taking private ski lessons, piano lessons and go to sports camps in summer. I'f he ever loses his job or gets laid off, he's fricked. He's walking a razor thin line
