Same reason people think .08 is the marker of sobriety and safety.

Given how many people are using their phones while driving the sctual accident rate is probably kinda low.

We can cry and weep all day, week, month and year and the texting and driving is going to continue unabated.

People who think it's ever going to stop are people who completely misunderstand the nature of the human being -- a completely social animal who will risk life itself in order to maintain a position of self-perceived esteem within the person's own perceived preferred social group or "cell."

It takes a remarkably observant and self-aware person to acknowledge this basic truth and react to that with a more logical course of action -- a course of action somewhat divorced from our primal urge to act like primates.

Fascinating.

It's not about risking your life to maintain social status. The majority is not actually 'texting' and driving or even posting on social media. People are watching videos, reading shite, looking at memes, and just scrolling social media because they are fricking bored. Driving is monotonous and in 2018 even Sirius isn't stimulating ebough. We are overstimulated and addicted to screens
