Half of all marriages end in divorce and more than half of all dating relationships end up breaking up.

You like those odds?

Lots of people meet their spouse on the job.

Just don't date crazy, which is easily identified if you spend all day working with someone.

I've seen a number of marriages end because people met someone on the job they liked better than their spouse

Here’s another saying: “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

Congrats on your upcoming trip to HR and future job search.

Why is it shite?

Because it pollutes an otherwise pleasurable activity. We enjoy eating, we don't want to hear and listen to the sounds of someone baking a batch of dumpernickel while we eat. Dating is mostly a pleasurable activity, and we don't want to pollute that with office talk, office politics, office gossip, etc.

The worst is when your work girlfriend gets pissed and tells your wife.

That's playing Russian Roulette these days though. Like another poster says, it just takes one bad breakup for the girl to run to HR. And at that point you're fricked. It's just not worth it in today's workplace. Too much to lose.

Young employee saw me interviewing a hot young girl.

He said I needed to hire her.

I told him he wasn't allowed to date her.

He said I couldn't do that.

I advised him that if he dated her he'd end up getting fired or quitting.

A week later he was screaming at her. She said she couldn't work with him. I asked her if they went out on a date, she said, "One terrible date."

I told him since he was losing his shite around her, I was moving him to a crappy shift where they'd be separated. He quit.

Interesting...my interpretation has always been that "where you eat" refers to where you get your sustenance (i.e. money). You don't want to risk contaminating your "food" by shitting near it (i.e. doing something that may put your job and/or your ability to enjoy it at risk).

I can chime in on this one:

I had a good job right out of college and was clicking along about year 4-5 when the CEO's secretary started flirting.

I went was a willing participant and ended up dating her for 2 years, she explained it to her boss who was cool.

Well the relationship went bad due to me being me and I was asked if I would like to resign or be fired.

Lost my job and my girl, that one hurt. "don't shite where you eat".

I've seen those relationships go both ways, but I don't advise doing it.

For me, she'd have to be really special. Is the risk worth the reward?

Have seen multiple situations where one of the two parties involved had to find another job. In the 80's, I saw an office assistant get fired for not giving a salesman his messages.
