I kinda get what OP says.

Average person isn’t just casual but down right sloppy these days.

My standard outfit on days off is khaki pants or shorts (depending on weather) and a dry fit or nylon type polo. That make me super dressy compared to an average person. And some of these shirts came from Marshall’s (others were from nice resorts)

I wear shorts, T-shirt, and flip flops to Pappas Bros Steakhouse IDGAF. My favorite restaurant.

Yeah, everyone dressed nice before 2020. You are a retard.

I do get the OP regarding the sheer amount of people dressing like they just don't give a frick. Not about t-shirts or shorts etc but just not seeming to have much pride in their appearance.

Definitely has a lot to do with location too.

Probably almost every one carrying so many extra pounds has a lot to do with it.

The beards and the Beard knew the reason for dressing well.

Sounds like a you problem. Plenty of people in places like Dallas that dress nice and aren’t “materialistic.” Maybe you need to work on yourself.

There might be more to do with it than just dressing nice tbh. Tattoos, being fat, doesn’t help either.

I don’t even live in Dallas. Never have. Just heard it was a place where this phenomenon is big.

And from what I have seen it does seem to be the case. Lots of girls get plastic surgery.

I read an article in the San Francisco Chronicle about how people used to dress in the 1930s and 1940s. On Sundays a man would never go downtown without wearing a suit and a hat.

Collared shirt and pants, non running shoes sometimes, pretty lenient, as it is very hot down here.

Why do people only dress nice in materialistic places

What kind of crack are you smoking? It used to be that people thought clothes sent a message, but then people wizened up and realized that clothes are easy and only show intent. Only lawyers and used car salesmen are still trying to catch suckers with this spiel. I live in an affluent Texas community and I’ve never heard a man talk about clothes here. Much more common to see a tshirt and swim trunks than a suit.
