I'm assuming you are talking about a power rack. It's much safer to bench in there if you don't have a spotter. Well regarded weightlifting guides like "Starting Strength" recommend it.

Because it takes me longer to workout when some dumbass is using the machine I need and hes not even using for what its intended use is

A little off topic but related to misusing equipment, but I was in the Anytime in downtown Hammond getting in a late workout around 12 AM, well this drunk guy walks in and goes to the treadmill, pulls his pants down, and proceeds to piss all over the treadmill. A girl in their freaks out and calls Hammond PD, and they come in to arrest him while the whole time he is crying like someone just killed his dog saying "Please don't arrest me it will ruin my life." The cops couldn't stop laughing as they threw the cuffs on.

I know CSB but figured it was semi-related and pretty funny.

Some times you need to get creative. Were there other stand alone benches available? Those dips are not the same as a dip using the bars. Deal with it and just jump in and do your mother fricking set.

Yeah when I was working with a personal trainer she actually had me do bodyweight dips using a bench all the time. Sometimes a plain bench wasn't available so she would have me use the bench on another piece of equipment.

why don't you tell the manager?

why don't you tell staff?

big guys think they own clubs. if you let them, they will walk all over you.

So what about the smith machine? Legs only or do you do shoulder and chest on it as well?

Literally just saw a girl doing the "leg exercise" in the .gif using the assisted pull-up/dip machine.

It's actually a good glute exercise.

I military press in the squat rack. I think it's okay since I press more than you squat.

You realize that regular dips and dips on the bench with legs supported by another bench are two completely different exercises.

And you need to clarify if it was a squat rack vs a power rack vs a smith machine.

Yeah the latter is really bad for your shoulders.

So fun fact: I'm out in downtown Hammond tonight reminiscing with friends, & someone brings up the conversation of the guy who did this. Turns out I'm really good friends with this guy & yes he's a frickng idiot.

I use the row machine to do dead lifts.

I have a back injury from a car wreck that makes deadlifts and squats either impossible or painful. I try to do really deep leg presses for the leg portion of the squat, and use the row machine to crank out the back portion.

Tried to do a squat earlier with 190lbs and couldn't drop down. My back just clicks and then it feels like knives.

Tl:dr I paid for the membership, I will use the equipment in the way that benefits me most.

I use the hammer strength chest press to do shrugs . Serious. It hits them in a different way as you are pulling up your traps at an angle. I will also sometimes do shrugs standing on the seat of a shoulder press machine but only when the gym is fairly empty.

I use the perched curl bench backwards sometimes. Put the bar on the seat and lean over cushion to do curls. It isolates the bicep only and works great.
